Yep.
Expectations very low for next season.
It might be fun watching local young players develop.
But it basically means we are in with Derbys, Glamorgan, Leics etc[/QUOTE]

Re the 4 day game, we've been there for a few years already.

Having seen all three of this counties over the last few years it's not a pretty sight.

Where did you read this ?

BBC 2020 Finals day it mentioned he wasn't playing for Notts due to injury and was retiring.

EDIT: The crap level of the BBC Cricket Journos covering the 2020 Finals day means they could well have got it wrong and then corrected themselves later on. Much like I'm doing. :lolol:

Yeah, I heard he was looking for another county.

I'm not sure it would be good move to get him back - although I was sorry that he left

At least he'd be a batsman. Something we look painfully short on for next season.

The club has also confirmed that Van Zyl is returning as an overseas player, joining Head as part of our quota.

They're also hopeful of getting Khan and Wiese back as T20 players - suggesting that Head won't be playing in these

I have been harsh in my view of not just this season but all under JG's reign. However. today I received a letter from the club explaining the dire financial situation they are in. All staff; both playing and non playing have accepted voluntary salary reductions with most staff , including players, having been on furlough leave for long periods this summer. The club is now asking Life Members to make a financial donation. Many annual members have donated their 2020 membership fee to the club.

So as much as I criticise the standard of cricket there is no doubt that Sussex are fighting for their future, as are the other "smaller" counties. It would be awful if future generations are robbed of the joy of sitting in the sun at the County Ground, having a pint or two, gala pie and sandwiches at the ready as you chat away with your friends and occasionally watch the cricket as Sussex steer their way to an inevitable defeat in the sun or sea fret. Happy Days!

Well said. We are lucky to have the management we have. The whole is much more complicated

Yes. There is a much bigger picture here than whether our batting will hold up next year (it won't). The question is will our club, and others, be there to enjoy to future generations. There's no guarantee that we will be able to have full capacity matches for 2020's next summer and hold other events.

The property developer vultures in Hove will never stop circling

Sums up my feelings beautifully....defeat always seems so much easier to take after 4 days sitting in a deckchair in the sun (if you're lucky), chatting away mindlessly to whoever will listen, a couple of pints for lunch, eyelids feeling heavier in the afternoon, rolling home in the evening tired but happy.

Very well said, I'm desperately worried about the future of county cricket. As you say it's not just Sussex in this position, I can see a situation where we end up with a national league of just six or eight professional sides in some guise.

With 4 and 6 year old boys, I was so looking forward to taking them to Sussex games as I did growing up and giving them the wonderful memories I have. I love cricket and have always been a huge fan of the county game but at the moment I can't see it carrying on. Financially most counties seemed to be struggling prior to Covid, I fear this will be the final nail.

How many of us are guilty of complaining about the demise of long form cricket, while not actually paying to go and see it ?
There are too many armchair County cricket fans.
