Re: the wireless charging, there are coffee shops rolling out wireless charging capabilities in their outlets embedded in every table. That means you only need sit down and pop your phone on the table for it to get some much needed extra juice while you're out and about. Assuming it catches on and this becomes a common thing it would seriously help with the problem of short battery life

I'd wondered what the angle was on wireless charging, as it seemed to be solving a non-existent problem. However it's potentially a great way of bringing about a single technology for charging, at least amongst non-Apple phones (assuming that Apple will prefer to develop it's own infrastructure).

Oddly enough wireless charging isn't actually a new thing. In fact it was a much touted feature of the ill-fated Palm Pre which was released about four years ago. Obviously it just didn't really catch on, but this time round there seems to be more oomph behind it. As well as this new Nexus handset, the new Nokias have also been making a big do about wireless charging. And with big chain cafes getting on board there's a real hope it could become the norm and be a real help in the struggle with smartphone love vs battery life.

That's fine by me. I don't work for Google or LG, I don't make any money from sales of this handset. I'm just excited about its launch because it's so much better than anything else out there. The iPhone was once a world beater, but its latest incarnation is disappointing by Apple's own standards and the hefty price tag means new iPhone owners are paying an awful lot of money simply for the Apple logo. I don't think there's any value in the premium that Apple charge on iPhones anymore

Personally I pay very little attention to the specs. People who aren't Apple fans bang on about the specs all the time, and if it was all about that then yes I may have changed my phone allegiance!

The two most important parts for me with a smart phone (other than the basic ability of phone, text, email, Internet), are build quality (what it feels like in your hand), and software.

I use my phone extremely frequently and want the best possible experience when doing so. Imo, the general experience and usability of using an iPhone far outweighs what else is on the market. I can't stand Windows, and tacky plastic/colourful phones, so it works brilliantly for me.

Value for money? You won't get it with an iPhone if you focus on the specs alone. If you have the money to spend on an iPhone 5, I very much doubt you will worry too much about the S3 having the extra 2 hours battery life or whatever it is!

Believe it or not I'm not some Android fanboy or Apple hater. In fact I adore my Macbook and have owned about 6 different iPods which were all great bits of kit. I think Apple make some absolutely excellent gear.

I'm also very much interested in build quality. I currently own a Nokia Lumia 800 handset even though it runs Windows Phone which has barley any apps, simply because it is a wonderfully built handset. A solid, smooth chunk of polycarbonate that feels substantial in your hand, I don't think there's a phone to match it. And it's this build quality that I think has been Android's biggest downfall to date. Not that it is the OS's fault of course, but no manufacturer seems to have gone for the jugular and produced a truly excellent and solid design to run Android. This phone *could* change that. But of course we'll have to wait and see what it actually feels like in the flesh. All signs so far however, indicate that the build quality on this Nexus device is very decent indeed.

Looks amazing, I've been with Apple for a few years. Very nearly upgraded from my iPhone 4 to 5. Never used Android and have always remained loyal to Apple and iOs.
However, this looks like it could be the best Apple competitor yet.
I'll be buying this on launch day, sorry Bozza.

A few above have wondered how the phone 'feels' etc. It's 139 grams compared to the iPhone 4 at 137 grams so should feel pretty solid!
The iPhone 5 felt very cheap in comparison.

I agree. Had a "hands on" with the latest iPhone at the weekend and was surprised by the feel of it. Obviously nobody wants a brick in their pocket, but being too lightweight makes the phone feel flimsy. I think the previous iPhone was just about right in terms of its weight.

That doesn't even make any sense.

But at any rate, I'm not really interested in what a Liverpool fan thinks, thanks

you're right, it didn't make sense, and I got it wrong too.

I've tried my step into Android with the HTC one X. I was very underwhelmed to be honest. Sure there were plenty of apps but I just felt the whole design of the OS was a bit of a mess.

Am now back with iPhone 5 and unless Android improves its slickness dramatically thats where I'll be staying regardless of cost reductions.

That was exactly the purpose of project butter, which came into effect for the latest version of Android, Jellybean. Extra smoothness

I must admit I am rather intrigued to know his reaction to this latest Android device and its low price. He's ever so defensive about anything he perceives as a threat to Apple, and I'd say this Nexus 4 is as big a threat to the iPhone's credibility as there's been since the launch of the iPhone 5.

And to further irk our Dear Leader, Apple have been forced into another embarrassing statement of apology

Apple told to rewrite 'Samsung did not copy' statement, post it on front page until Dec 14th -- Engadget

Apple might not have liked having to publish a notice stating that Samsung did not copy its design, as the result of a court ruling, but it complied all the same. Or did they? A UK court of appeal has criticized the firm over its choice of wording, considering it slippery enough to warrant a rewrite. The Guardian reports that the acknowledgement posted by Apple was deemed non-compliant with the court's order. Apple has today been told to correct its statement, and re-post it on the front page of its website, with at least an 11-point font (and not as a hidden footer link) within 48 hours. The Cupertino team rebuffed, claiming that it would take at least two weeks to get a fresh rework together, a statement that reportedly caused disbelief from some court officials. So, the clock is ticking, and somewhere a legal team is no doubt engaging in some serious thinking. The new statement must remain on Apple's site until December 14th, plenty of time to catch the attention of eager Christmas shoppers.

Time to be excited! The critically acclaimed Nexus 4 handset is set to be unleashed on us lucky punters later this month.

Nexus – Google

More powerful than any handset on the market today and featuring the very latest version of the world's best selling mobile OS, this really does look like the phone to beat.

Early reviews have come out universally praising its specs and design, although the fact it's only going to initially be available in 8gb and 16gb variants will piss some people off. Personally I think 16gb is more than adequate for a phone however.

But the real killer blow? You can pick this bad boy up, unlocked, for just £239.

That's right, £239.

That's a price point that other top end handsets can't even get close to. Consider that the best phone on the market right now, Samsung's Galaxy S3, will cost you £400. And the widely derided iPhone 5 is a staggering £529 on its own. That's more than TWICE the price for a significantly inferior product.

HOW have Google and LG reached this ludicrously low price?

I confidently predict this handset will soon become the best selling smartphone of all time.

So when will YOU be buying YOURS?
