Not the best example though. He renounced his German citizenship

and Turned down the Presidency of Isreal. He also said:

"The [Jewish] State idea is not according to my heart. I cannot understand why it is needed. It is connected with narrow-minded and economic obstacles. I believe it is bad. I have always been against it."

Boris Becker on the BBC's Wimbledon coverage. One of the few watchable presenters (alongside McEnroe).

This is certainly better thread than some of the others I've read today where people who are young enough to be my son are expressing their hatred of Germany.

Anyway, back to the reasons to love Germany:

Propaganda - Duel & Doctor Mabuse
Spezi
Kraftwerk
Great cities like Berlin and Hamburg
They have a grudging respect for us Brits in spite of some of our appalling attitudes towards them
A football league which hasn't lost its soul
Boris Becker
Steffi Graf's legs
Bernd Schuster

Hmmm. I like a love-in but sometimes the attitudes are with good reason.

I don't think anyone under the age of 40 has a good reason to demonise the Germans.

The 2 World Cups and 1 World War brigade are really tedious to me.

But this is a debate for another place,

Let's celebrate more Teutonic treasures:

Weissbier
Sauerkraut with mountains of pork
Günther Netzer
Bernhard Langer

I remember when I was a TEFL teacher of a bunch of Germans - several of them complained about being spat at, and in one case, kicked when about in town. They were a great bunch of kids too - very polite and careful to queue up. How on earth can that sort of behaviour be justified?

And to add to the list...

Das Boot
Der Untergang (Downfall)
Das Leben der Anderen

and...

Can
Neu
Georg Buechner
Richard Strauss
and in anticipation of Sunday, Die Angst des Tormanns eim Elfmeter - the Fear of the goalkeeper of the penalty kick
