The idiom simply sums up my view.

It is patently unfair to expect people to pay tax while not allowing them to vote.

It does happen. My wife has lived, worked and paid tax and NI for 20 years but cannot vote as she is not a British Citizen

If she is good enough to pay into the system then she should be able to vote.

I think it was a disastrous social care policy they proposed that turned people, especially older, away from Tories in last election. They then quickly retracted it but it was to late to influence the result.

Agreed. Although I didn't specify it I was including the manifesto as part of the 'campaign'; it wasn't just the 'Strong and Stable' Maybot that turned people off.

Like I said she was facing the terrorist-loving, anti-British, ultra-leftie Corbyn and the polls had her at plus 20%. She thought she was shooting into an open goal and could therefore do what she liked

(As an aside in this modern social media era where people get their news from the likes of Facebook, I wonder how much influence the traditional 'Tory Press' really has?)

O/T: Actually, weird historical fact, 'no taxation without representation' was first said by an Englishman, Lord Camden. It was in a speech in the House of Lords "Declaratory Bill of the Sovereignty of Great Britain over the Colonies" and was printed in the London Magazine.

what isnt explained is why UK couldnt adopt such policies already, EU do not control drug pricing for the NHS.

Can't believe im saying this, but I don't know how i will vote.

The Tories are gradually morphing into The Monster Raving Loonie Posh Boys party, Labour, while I think their heart is in the right place, their heads, and policies, are about 70 years behind.

Lib Dem seem to be saying, stick your fingers in your ears, scream, then you can just cancel Brexit and pretend it was a bad dream.

I will probably revert to habit and vote Labour, but why I would I just don't know.

That's how I feel.

My middle brother gave me a stiff talking to in The Swan before the Everton game, and I felt a bit ashamed (for putting my disdain for Corbyn ahead of focusing on getting the Boris party out). I see Margaret Hodge has just been reselected as the labour candidate for Barking so presumably it is still OK to be Jewish in Labour. Stay and fight, and all that.

It would probably have to be tactical for me here, though. My constituency is Maidstone, so a pig with a blue rosette is normally sufficient for the majority of voters here. However, with enough gammon it is possible the Brexit party may steal votes. So if I vote red or yellow it may not be a wasted vote.

Perhaps I'll hang on for a bit and try to weigh up how best to maximise the chance of the tory not winning.

That’s the legacy of the Tory government. We were supposed to ‘all be in this together’ but austerity has seen the most vulnerable in society hit hardest whilst the already wealthy have increased their wealth thanks in part due to Tory tax breaks worth billions. So Johnson can talk big about spending all he likes but, as the old chestnut goes, actions speak louder than words.

Other than that though - it's looking quite rosy in the garden I think.

Is it not the point that the need for a trade deal (to replace the lost trade with the EU) would create the pressure for such rules to be enacted. I have no doubt they would like to do it anyway, but they know it is politically difficult - and this would be the excuse they need. What is very clear now is that, despite Johnson and Hancock's 'reassurances' this has already been under extensive discussion with US officials.

Johnson is untrustworthy eh? Who knew!

Retired people pay income tax.
Unemployed people and retired pay VAT, so there is nobody over the age of 16 who doesn't pay taxes.

Even children who are wealthy enough to receive more than £1000 interest on their savings accounts, or are earning money from acting etc, pay income tax.

Never bet against the Tories to pull an election win off. The only current Tory policies are a, Brexit and b, reversing all the cuts they made in the interests of " austerity " which they now admit didn't work.

Sadly most people will vote Tory and happily not worry when the increased spending fails to materialise as we all " Have to tighten our belts " in order to compete financially with our ex EU partners.

My vote will come down to whether Labour deselects Peter Kyle. If they don’t he’ll keep my vote. If they do then it’s Lib Dem all the way.

only if they have high enough income. anyway im not the one suggesting tieing vote to tax.

deselection may be unlikely at this stage. as i read somewhere, the background to Corbyn's reluctance for an election is they arent ready, the Momentum machine hasnt corrected LLPs to install their new candidates.
