Something along the lines of they werent going to accept this decision as a defeat and that they had two public enquiry victories to our one. Also said they were willing to take it to the high court eventually.

Why has this farmer suddenly become Mr Super Nimby? He kept a relative low profile for years then suddenly from nowhere he burst onto the Nimby scene.

Eventually? They have another 40 days. To find multiple millions of quid.

He only rents the land from Brighton council anyway. He can rent somewhere else.

He could sell match day programmes from his shop and make a fortune!

I do NOT feel sorry for him. The land should never have been ploughed up for farming in the first place.

He has got subsidised farming for useless agricultural land.

The whole affair and objections have been exaggerated out of all proportion.

This comment seems to be typical of the view of the public:

"I don't know what all the fuss is about. The stadium probably wont get built anyway due to costs - none of which will be met by the local councils. And if it does get built, so Moulscoomb loses a cabbage field or two. It's hardly an area of outstanding beauty."

I have heard this twice last night.

For once I completely agree with Perseus.

The South Downs are for sheep not agricultural farming and the field should never have been ploughed up in the first place.

Still, something of outstanding natural beauty will be there now. A field of grass with lovely white markings on it, lovingly tended by our groundsman.
