Like many on here no doubt, I am carrying a few extra pounds of baggage. Having had a discussion with Lush, we have both signed on at All Things Food and Diet - FatSecret, which is a site for recording both food and exercise, with a view to losing a stone (or two in my case).

With the first fixture just over seven weeks away, we thought it might be an idea to set up a weight loss challenge on the site for fellow tubbies.

As far as I can make out there is no catch on the site, certainly no fees. If you join, and sign up for the challenge, you will automatically be entered into either the home (Blue and White), or away (Green and Black) team, and then it is simply a case of recording as little (such as weekly weight) or as much (food, exercise, blog, recipes) as you wish. Being part of a group means that you are less likely to quit, which has always been my problem in the past.

You can also download an app for iPhone, Android and Blackberry so that you can record your food consumption and exercise. It can be quite revealing, I have found that about 40% of my calories come from snacking, which is an eye opener, and gives me an area to address.

The challenge officially starts on Saturday (which gives you two days to lard up beforehand), and may of course attract no interest and die on it's arse, however good luck to anyone who wants to look a bit trimmer for the summer.

No thanks.

"Say it loud, I'm fat and proud" to only slightly misquote James Brown.

Or alternatively:

"I refuse to spend my life worrying about what I eat. There is no pleasure worth forgoing just for an extra three years in the geriatric ward." to accurately quote John Mortimer.

It will make you and your partner more attractive too

Research of over 1900 men has revealed that men would much rather see their partner or wife in their favourite football teams colours than a skimpy lingerie set in bed.

Women who are looking to bring a bit of romance back to their relationship should look no further than their man’s favourite football team strip when it comes to what to wear in bed according to research from a leading women’s celebrity fashion website.

MyCelebrityFashion.co.uk quizzed 1,904 blokes on their favourite female bed-time fashion turn on and instead of sexy lingerie or fantasy role play costumes leading the way, the most popular turn-on for men was their wife or girlfriend wearing their favourite teams top.

34% of men asked said they would prefer their wife or girlfriend to wear their favourite team’s football or rugby top in bed, 23% said that they would be more interested in “sexy lingerie”, 21% replied with simply “nothing”, 16% said they would love to see a “fantasy role play outfit” and 6% said “ordinary nightwear”.

Londoners were second behind blokes in the North West when it came to wanting to see their missus in their favourite strip, with half, 52%, preferring the idea.

Blokes in the North West were the most keen to see their partner in a football shirt with 53% saying they would be most turned on by this. The region that least went for the football or rugby top look in bed was Scotland where only 17% went for football shirts and instead 48% blokes instead preferred the sexy lingerie look.

42% of men in the South West would like to see their partner in their favourite rugby team’s jersey, beaten only by men in rugby-mad Wales, 51% of whom would prefer their wife or girlfriend in a rugby top.

Speaking about the results the Managing Director of MyCelebrityFashion, Jilly Tovey said,

“I think women everywhere always had a sneaking suspicion that blokes like their football or rugby team more than they should but to find out that they find women more attractive in bed when they are wearing a football or rugby top is maybe taking it a little too far”.

She continued, “Not only do the results strike a blow for women’s wardrobes it also causes us at MyCelebrityFashion a huge headache as we don’t stock any football related sporting wear and have no plans to do so in the immediate future”.

The full list of favourite bed-time clothes split by region were as follows:

Scotland: 48% preferred women to wear nothing in bed
North East: 49% preferred women to wear football shirts in bed
North West: 53% preferred women to wear football shirts in bed
Midlands: 46% preferred women to wear football shirts in bed
East England: 42% preferred women to wear sexy lingerie in bed
West England: 51% preferred women to wear football shirts in bed
South West: 42% preferred women to wear rugby shirts in bed
Croydon: 98% preferred women to be their sister in bed
South East: 39% preferred women to wear sexy lingerie in bed
Wales: 51% preferred women to wear rugby shirts in bed.

The thing is, it's only once you stop over eating processed crap that you realise how sluggish and lacking energy you were when you carried excess weight from doing so and from not doing enough exercise. It's not about prolonging your life by three mostly miserable years.

Mind you, where I'd probably agree with you is with my general disdain for dieting. They're not usually sustainable. Far better IMO to make a conscious effort to simply eat sensible food, only eat seconds if you're actually hungry and then build exercise into your daily routine.

For breakfast I now have All Bran and a banana
If I get hungry before lunch I just have an apple or orange.
For lunch I have two wraps, ham and salad

Its in the evening where its wrong. Once I can sort this out I should start to lose weight. I try to walk at least a couple of miles a day or try and cycle.

Dieting is bloody hard.

Are you talking about the official Weight Watchers here? If you are, are you meant to have 45 points a day.
My wife knows all about Weight Watchers, pointing.
I just ask her what points something is and I have the answer. Its quicker than the internet.

I think dieting is a concept I am trying to get out of my head. It's cutting the crap and being more mobile that is my goal. I still play competitive sport and don't want to retire from it for some time, so to achieve that goal I need to be a bit more in shape.

Also the thought of diabetes, heart disease and comfortable pants don't appeal!

No it's not the official one. It's a watered down version, no points involved, just a case of eating sensibly (bloody hard!) and seeing how it goes.
