For breakfast I now have All Bran and a banana
If I get hungry before lunch I just have an apple or orange.
For lunch I have two wraps, ham and salad

Its in the evening where its wrong. Once I can sort this out I should start to lose weight. I try to walk at least a couple of miles a day or try and cycle.

Dieting is bloody hard.
Evening is always the toughest in my experience. I get home from work, I'm tired, I often can't be arsed to do much once my chores are out the way. It's easy to crack open a beer, or tuck into biscuits with a cup of tea.

My advice would be to have a large breakfast, nothing until a moderate sized lunch, and a light supper. Then try and build exercise into your lifestyle. Too many people drive to the train station, for example. Consider going for a run before you have your large breakfast if you are an early riser. Your metabolism would work off any excess calories you then eat.

I hate exercise. This is my plan for people who don't do a lot of exercise. Appreciate that it won't be right for everyone.

- Make a list of what you think your BAD eating habits are. Write down how many calories they are adding to you per day/week. Resolve to cut all this out.

- Find out your healthy BMI and choose a target weight within it. This is what you're aiming for.

- Count calories, but not religiously ie every lettuce leaf. That will make the whole thing dull and unmanageable. But it's good to be aware the number of calories you are putting into you every time you eat or drink something.

- Cut out all sweet things and alcohol. Cut carbs to the bare minimum (no bread). Keep your calorie intake as LOW as possible (no treats). Every high calorie thing you eat means you'll be dieting for longer. The idea is to reach your goal weight as QUICKLY as possible so you can stop this dieting nonsense.

- Drink a glass of water BEFORE every meal, so you don't try and slake your thirst with food and feel fuller faster.

- NEVER eat anything while doing something else - like watching TV, reading or even listening to the radio. Concentrate on your food. Take smaller mouthfuls.

- If you can walk somewhere within an hour, do it rather than drive/take public transport. If you're carrying bags, think of it as weight training.

- When you reach your target weight, you can eat normally again BUT if you go back to your bad habits listed in Tip 1, you will put it all back on again, so try not to.

This is a bit late for me. I am tracking via Sparkpeople, and have lost 16 pounds in 5 weeks.

Counting and reducing calories works for me. It will be not putting it back on that will be key.

Might join this site as well and compare.

I'm with you entirely. It's the proximity to the cupboard and fridge that is my problem, especially when working from home as at present marking exams, which is so bum numbingly boring that a Jaffa Cake or ten becomes irresistible.

However the desire for team BLUE & WHITE to defeat Green and Black will keep me on the right track this summer....

I'm cutting out bread. With bread you have butter. Sometimes cheese.

Goodbye to things like sausage rolls (pastry) and hello to things like oily fish.

A lot of the time, if you think you are hungry, you might well be bored or thirsty. So a glass of water should be the first option and then see how you feel from there.

Definitely cutting down on drinking during the week. Not only are beer and wine calorific, they will make you feel tired the next day.

Sounds simple, doesn't it?

I'm on the verge of marathon training, so that should help. Eat too much fruit as it is, but never eat cakes/biscuits and so on. Might have to bin Haribo for a while/ever :(

Count me in too! Need to lose enough to climb up to the WSU at speed in the event of a late train etc.

Although more threads on those Amex pies are not going to help, may have to nip out there tomorrow to at least try one before the challenge starts.

I know people who've done the Lighter Life thing, and undoubtedly when they've stuck with it, they've lost weight. With that one though, I can't help feeling you'd put weight on again very quickly once you've finished the plan, as it seems to be one of those milkshake and nutritional bar things. I'd be bloody starving on that.

I'll vouch for WeightWatchers, did that a few years ago and lost nearly 2 stone, never put much more than 3-4 pounds of that back on (usually around holiday/Christmas time) because it makes you more aware of the value of everything you eat, and you learn very easily what you can get away with eating before you start to gain weight. Plus you can eat normal stuff, not just bunny food. I think blokes tend to shy away because they have visions of FatFighters on Little Britain, but if you can get past that, they're very good.

As a baker I get up at 3am most days, eating properly and not snacking on tasty pastries has been a challenge. I have wanted to do something for a while now. Ever since I quit smoking 18 months ago the weight has slowly piled on. I don't want to turn into someone that wears crocs , animal print fleeces and comfortable pants and gets out of breath going for a poo.And for this reason I'm in. Green and black team.

Once you stop, you will then have to change your diet again and the insecurities may well come back if you are not losing weight. That seems to be the target and it is easy with the sachet/shake undereating, but what happens after that? Much more sensible to change your diet at the start and work hard for it.

That sounds appalling, but perhaps justifiable if she is 20 stone and the only alternative is a gastric band.

She was overweight, but and has been for sometime. She was depressed and drinking almost a bottle of wine a day for a long time. I think she was kidding herself when she said she didn't overeat/drink and exercised plenty. It is easy to go to the gym and think you have expended yourself.

I do think losing weight so quickly is unwise. Even if it is 'recommended by GPs and nutritionally balanced'.

Still got a Steak and Ale sitting in the fridge. Gonna do my weigh in tomorrow and then have it for lunch! With a salad sandwich for evening meal to offset the calories!

I would have got one of those too, but they were still 30 mins away from coming out of the oven.
Still, something else to try another day.

Filling, and moreish, aren't they?
