Same goes for the heir to the throne who has a massively unfortunate record in this area.

Yes you do wonder if Diana's personal assistant (what was his name? The bloke who took some of her possessions) might have something to say, and of course he had relations with Michael Barrymore I believe. Paul Burrell, that's the one.

Potential victims of child sex abuse at the hands of former prime minister Sir Edward Heath are being urged to come forward after a senior police officer claimed an allegation had been made in the 1990s.

Wiltshire Police said the former Conservative prime minister had been named in "relation to offences concerning children" and they wanted to "identify if there are any witnesses or victims" to "support allegations".

The inquiry was sparked after a retired senior police officer claimed that an allegation against Sir Edward was made to the force in the 1990s but officers failed to investigate properly.

Wiltshire police has set up a helpline with the NSPCC urging people to come forward if they have any information about the claims.

A police spokesman said: "If there is evidence of offences having been committed we will ensure that, if possible, those responsible are held to account through a thorough and detailed investigation.

"This includes any other parties who are identified as having been involved in child sex abuse.

"Some people may never have spoken out about the abuse they have suffered but we would urge them to please contact us and to not suffer in silence."

The way the Wiltshire force handled the 1990s' claim is now being investigated by the police watchdog the Independent Police Complaints Committee (IPCC).

In a statement the IPCC said: "It is alleged that a criminal prosecution was not pursued, when a person threatened to expose that Sir Edward Heath may have been involved in offences concerning children."

Sir Edward, who was prime minister from 1970 to 1974, never married and there has been speculation about his personal life over the years.

He lived in Salisbury for many years and on his death in 2005, at the age of 89, his ashes were interred at Salisbury Cathedral.

The disclosure comes amid an independent inquiry into whether historic child sex abuse claims were covered up or ignored by public bodies.

David Cameron has told police investigating child abuse allegations against politicians they should go "as high as they like".

NSPCC chief executive Peter Wanless, who carried out a review of how the Home Office handled allegations of child sex abuse against prominent figures, said: "It's important that people who believe they have been victims of abuse have the confidence to speak out knowing that their voices will be listened to.

"Whether abuse happened in the past, or is occurring today, whether those being accused are authority figures or not, allegations of crimes against children must be investigated thoroughly."

The NSPCC helpline for the Edward Heath inquiry is 0808 800 5000.

[h=1]Edward Heath 'raped 12 year-old boy at Mayfair flat[/h]

A man has claimed he was raped by Sir Edward Heath when he was 12, as police launch an inquiry into the alleged "cover-up" of child sex abuse allegations levelled at the former Prime Minister.

In an interview with The Mirror, the alleged victim, now in his 60s, claimed he was sexually assaulted by Sir Edward in his Mayfair flat in 1961 after being picked up while hitchhiking.
The boy, who claimed to have been abused throughout his childhood by his father and his paedophile friends, said Sir Edward picked him up along the A2 road in north Kent as he hitched a lift.
He claimed to have gone back to an apartment in Park Lane, London where he was raped.
It was not until 1965 that he says he realised who his alleged abuser was, recognising him from a picture in a newspaper in which Sir Edward was standing beside Margaret Thatcher.

Also Jersey police have confirmed that TH is part of operation Whistle.

& SkyNews today:

A US Newsweek reporter Leah McGrath Goodman disclosed on Monday night she was removed from the UK for investigating child sex abuse claims against Sir Edward on Jersey in 2011.

She told LBC Radio: "Ted Heath was one of the more prominent allegations. He enjoyed using his yacht, and would come to the island frequently.

"He would take children from care homes for a ride on the yacht and it was reported that some never came back."

Sounds like they have been getting a lot of calls too.

Not suggesting this is untrue but he must have been one unlucky lad to have that happen to him at home and then get randomly picked up for it to happen again by complete strangers.

Finally this appears to breaking across some mainstream media. It has the potential to significantly undermine national confidence in the establishment. For that reason alone we should all continue to be highly sceptical regarding any official response. Sad to say I trust no one in this with the current exception of Exaro News. The BBC reporting (or lack of) so far has been inexscusable - I have no faith in them at all.

This was many years ago, maybe going back to the Nineties, but used to always meet up with a former clleague (whose name I can no longer remember) at Ascot Racecourse who swore blind that he had mates in the SAS whose duties involved guarding Ted Heath's bedroom on Heath's official engagements, and turning a blind eye to the goings-on - and sometimes screams - with rent-boys within that bedroom. Seems to me that any quizzing of Heath's official bodyguards of that era might throw up something of interest to the current inquiry...

Is it any real surprise? Glass houses and that.

The Saville report still hasn't been released and I'm assuming their attempt at Maxwellisation of it will be given short shrift by the Government if they start digging on Tory abusers.

never trust anyone who says "trust me" especially if they are establishment

Some of his victims are not dead and the people still covering this up are not dead!

point taken, but have you seen any of the police, social workers, who had this information losing their jobs or pension, but I take your point about victims

You're right of course: it is no surprise to those paying attention. There are plenty that still regard the BBC as some bastion of investigative reporting and objectivity though. I hope, on the back of this some more may begin to seriously question them as a credible news organisation.
