Mehdi and his populist views to attract applauds on qt can do one.
I side with her majesty daily mail here, at least they stand by what they believe in.

The Daily Mail just can't help itself can it. It's reflex reaction is like a primary school child to yell "but he did worse sir" without once reflecting on it's own behaviour. At the root of it is the clique of journalists at the Mail in thrall to the worst of US right wing politics. The whole hating your country attack is a classic Fox News move.

Yup and something that harks back to America's obsession with its own national pride and identity. It's the reason that American kids salute the flag and the reason why they had McCarthyism. It just doesn't translate to the British psyche. We're too cynical.

But Quentin letts was slagging the BBC off and was on qt himself. At the end of the day many freelance journalists work for papers or media outlets they don't support. There's nothing in that letter that says he supports or shares the views of the mail, more over he wants them to pay him to give his point of view. Yes he is sucking up to dacre but who hasn't exaggerated a small piece for a job application.

What I think is telling, is how this letter was leaked after the qt piece. Once again it's playing the man not the ball in my view

What part of ' I'm attracted by the mail's social conservatism on issues like marriage , the family , abortion and teenage pregnancies' isn't supporting their view ?

The bit that goes on to say that he wishes to write an article proposing an alternative view on abortion perhaps?

he asked to write an article stating the left's case against abortion , you were clearly wrong to state 'nowhere in the letter does he support the views of tbe mail' its there in black and white, give up.

Ever heard the phrase opposites attract? You can be attracted to someone or something without supporting or agreeing with it. People are attracted to challenges - such as giving a left wing view in a paper with a reputation of being just to the right of Genghis khan

Yes I have , several papers have columnists for a contrarian point of view , that wasn't what mehdi Hassan was proposing or saying at all , saying ' I am attracted by the mails stance on social conservatism ' tells you he supports it , no matter how much you try and wriggle out of it or wish it wasnt the case , you're flogging a dead horse here , stop making yourself look foolish.

Point of order, Ralph (or Adolph as he was in his own country) was a Belgian. When he was conscripted to fight for HIS country in 1940 he ****ed off to England.

Having got to England he was hardly straining at the leash to get to the foe, (despite knowing his Jewish family were in German occupied Europe) because he went to study the LSE for a couple of years. He didn't sign up till June 1943 by which time he was over 20, bearing in mind conscription for British men was 18.

In June 1943 "his" country had already been saved, because the good old capitalists of the US of stateside were in the war.

I am not denigrating his war service, but the facts do not indicate he was consumed with an ardour to fight the Germans from the get go, something subsequently motivated him to do so 3 years after he got to England. Better late than never.

In 1943 the Holocaust was in full swing and was stopped by the Red Army two years later. He was born on 07 January 1924 and was 16 when he fled Belgium. He volunteered to join the Belgian Resistance in 1942 and joined the Royal Navy in 1943 aged 19. Fancy a debate about what at least one post-war British PM did rather than enlist ?

You've done nothing whatsoever to counter Fergus's argument ,bar making a spurious point that he 'volunteered' to join the Belgian resistance , anyway , enlighten us about the post war British PM.

How many 16 year old's get called up ? He volunteered as soon as he was old enough unlike Margaret Hilda Roberts who slunk off to Oxford rather than do her bit.

Milliband volunteered to be sent to Belgium to assist the resistance movement, and passed his medical in January 1942 but as a Polish national he was not allowed to join until the Polish authorities gave consent. He asked Harold Laski (a senior figure at the LSE) for help in joining the services, and shortly afterwards A. V. Alexander, First Lord of the Admiralty, wrote advising him to "go and see a vice-admiral at the Admiralty, who would fix it up." Milliband joined the Royal Navy in June 1943.

So you'll no doubt want to castigate Harold Wilson a .fighting age male who spent the war compiling statistics if you're going to describe an 18 year old girl as someone who 'slunk off to oxford ' , its a pitiful response .

Once again you show your ignorance. Wilson volunteered for service but was classified as a "specialist". He received an OBE for his services to the war effort.

Are you available for stand up? That's brilliant. I'd recommend the irony section.

Once again you are unable to counter any of the factual statements I've posted and resort to smear and innuendo. No wonder you seem to be such a fan of the The Daily Mail.

I'd recommend you don't do stand up , you're not very funny , certainly not as funny as you think you are.

TBH if I made people like you laugh I'd question my whole reason for being on this planet.

Fantastic - I find myself attracted to your posts I live reading words that I can almost hear the sneer that you would have used if you had said it, whilst for others almost feel the spittle that would emanate from you when you get worked up.

It doesn't however mean I agree with you.

Foolish doesn't even begin to describe your efforts later on in this thread. Wilson, Thatcher etc, you denounce one while defending the other.
