might be the end for crypto, at least in its current guise. the mainstream finance have cottoned on to the fact that valuations are based off the values of project's self-created tokens.
also the LBRY judgement gone under the radar, nearly all tokens will be securities under that interpretation, so all pet projects will become regulatated, exchanges drop them to avoid compliance. maybe relying on dexes more, either way its going to be a long winter here.

It looks like it will be a very long winter, although if it is to carry on, flushing out all the ponzi fraudulent projects/tokens now (i.e. 99% of them) will be a good thing.

Why oh why oh why?
Back up to ~ £1,050 at 10am from an overnight low of ~£950.
That's about a 10% rise in 12 hours, but it also dropped from ~£1,050 at 19:30 last night - a 10% fall in about 4 hours.
How can anyone take this seriously as a currency or store of value?

I don't. It's all a big casino.
The only thing I take seriously is XRP and XLM.
There are other coins and tokens with utility, of course, but for me XRP will be a bridge currency the world will use and come to depend upon.
My bags are packed.. I'm just sitting and waiting.

I bought around $1000 of Atom when it slumped to around $5.30 earlier this year. This helped offset some earlier losses.

It's like talking about browsers on a computer. Safari, Firefox, Edge, Opera, Chrome, Explorer - which one?
Well, they all work - and they all have their strengths and weaknesses. Some are best for one thing, others are best for other things.
Just think of the whole utility crypto space as the ocean. Whales, Top feeders, middle feeders, bottom feeders, plankton, shellfish, molluscs, algae, coral, seaweed etc etc. You don't have to choose one thing to live in the sea - it all exists together and all does a special job.. just like the different companies in the space.
Hope that's all crystal clear now.
Not too into cryptos myself but my friend who has made a fortune (well he sits in a big house and smokes weed, but he lives) out if it, and who is also running several crypto-based projects, says ETH is pretty much doomed in the mid-term future. f*** do I know if he's right. Might be money to make out of it right now though.

Emerging technologies are often around for decades before they get their breakthrough. Usually that breakthrough is when someone is able to make it comprehensible and user friendly enough for everyone and their mother to understand what it is about. This is just not the case... yet.

yeah, there will be more than one, though expect Ethereum to dominate (most aim for EVM compatible), with couple of majors alternatives then fringe players. its more about the tools and services on top in the long run.
