So this has rather quietly turned up, guessing the press will pick up on it fairly soon?!

Antibody test now on sale in UK which has met the MHRA criteria (minimum 98% specificity and sensitivity, and it has met/surpassed these.)

It appears you can buy one NOW for £89. I am slightly tempted - given very COVID-19-like symptoms in mid-March.

If that really is reliable that could be the beginning of the beginning of the end. £89 private treatment isn't viable but as far as I'm concerned, the quicker we accurately know the numbers who HAVE had the virus, the quicker we can ease lockdown in a safe and targeted manor.

Do I want to draw my own blood for £89? Not much. However, like you, I had symptoms. I had a funny turn at the start of March, a dry cough at the end of it and I have now had a horrid, productive, non-shifting cough for seven weeks. My GP thinks I may have had CV19. So, the question is how long can I resist not knowing versus potentially painful and expensive disappointment.

Get that rolled out on the NHS, however, and we're on our way to coin a phrase.

I want one ! Well, after pay day...

But....

If I have had CV-19, it was just after the Palace game 73 days ago...

The test says test after 20 days, so I'm not sure if it is worth testing with this kit ?

I think they're saying don't take it less than 20 days after symptoms, as antibodies take time to build up to levels that register. You would then be finding out if you STILL had immunity 73 days later - based on other coronaviruses, you'd hope so.

Read yesterday that some are still showing immune to certain strains of SARS 11 years later.

I suspect the Gov realised it wouldn't be good to roll out an antibody test too quickly whilst still trying to keep everyone inside. Suspect if numbers continue to improve that we'll see more noise on this in the gathering weeks.

Any time after 20 days or exactly after 20 days? If only there were a qualified medical doctor on the board

Any time after, I'd be pretty sure? Very hard to accurately quantify what 20 days after symptoms is exactly.

Probably any time. I was just not sure whether the test would work after 73 days, but thinking about it, it should.

I can't really justify the expense for another 2 weeks... but tempting..!

Just read that the aim is to get a cheaper test soon, so it might not be worth paying out for a test immediately just because it is first to market.

As any diabetic will tell you, a finger prick test is a non event (maybe a little shock first time you do it!)

My Mrs had gestational diabetes with our second and had to take blood for a reading either daily or weekly, I forget which. She made it look easy too, but she wasn't paying £89 for it :lolol:

My daughter works at Tesco and has received a letter today from the imperial college saying she’s been selected for the antibody test.
Apparently they’re selecting random key workers so she’s been chosen.
As a side note, she’s not had the test for cv19 or even thinks she may have had it

I’ve received one of those, I don’t think it’s key workers, it said just 100,000 random people when I looked it up. Not looking forward to shoving a swab up my nose, but if it all helps.

This is good news, half of NSC think they’ve had Covid 19 so if they can afford it may be a good thing.

Ps I hope it comes with instructions on how to deal with the inevitable disappointment and worry if you haven’t had it. [emoji29]

Maybe I'm cynical ... but if there is an effective antibody test why is it not all over the front pages of mainstream media?

Cummings has probably issued a DA notice?

Edit Yes I know I’m being negative, I’ve smacked myself on the wrist!!

Fantastic!

Just seen on the news that a 113yr old woman in Spain has beaten it too. Brilliant stuff!

Worldometers update - Global Serious/Critical Cases was over 50,000 a few days ago (and had been for quite a while), about to likely drop below 46,000 today.

We are also getting towards a situation where Closed Cases overtakes Active Cases, for the first time in a long time.

If you look at the Logarithmic scale for Total Deaths globally, you can also see a fairly clear flattening of the curve starting to occur.
