The good news is that easing lockdown in Germany didn’t affect the decline in the epidemic.

And it wouldn’t here either.

Radio 5 live had some guy on this morning who claimed to be an epidemiologist who was proclaiming Germany infection rate has gone up, news outlets must be held accountable for the things they put out, totally unacceptable to feed misinformation to people. I’ve found myself becoming quite obsessed by news and finding the truth because so many news outlets appear to be deliberately misleading and scaring people.

I remember reading some explanation for the in crease on a couple of days being down to a couple of clusters. Why an earth was the guy on R5 doing that

Just to add great posts this morning ..helps balance some of the replies to The Prof on his twitter account ..his tweets are my obligatory morning read but some of the attacks on him are quite sad

Possible there might be an initial rise as everyone gets a bit too complacent and "lets off steam"?

Some people genuinely get annoyed at him for being positive.

Some people genuinely get annoyed at him for being positive.

It’s weird how some people seem to get a neurotic kick out of doom and gloom.

I’ve been on websites where people have said things like “well, that’s no pubs, cinemas, or football for the next 18 months then” with such grim satisfaction.

And the cesspool of Twitter is of course full of bed wetting Jeremiahs who think we should lock down and only be allowed out in hazmat suits with written permission from Matt Hancock until nobody dies of anything anymore.

I think this virus, whilst deadly to vulnerable groups, is nowhere near as bad as the media and politicians would have us believe. Bad news for the moaning Minnies but good news for the rest of us.

Now this is good news.

Four Tet is performing a special gig, in the round, in the middle of an indoor velodrome track. He will perform within this mesh light curtain thing. Frustratingly this gig was at a time when I couldn’t go. But, it’s been re-arranged for next May on a Sunday. That Sunday is a friend, and Four Tet nut’s, birthday...and there’s a public holiday the next day.

This is what you call a no-brainier. 4 tickets duly purchased

Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet, will take over the Velodrom in Berlin on Saturday October 17th, 2020 adorning this iconic venue with a mesmerising light installation by dynamic international collective Squidsoup and filling it with music from new album “Sixteen Oceans“ (release: March 2020) and past albums. The audience will get in amongst over 42,000 immersive hanging lights and full exemplary surround sound.

This performance will be the only one of its kind in Europe in 2020. Four Tet played similiar shows in London at the 10.000 capacity Alexandra Palace in 2019 to wide critical acclaim.

So Berlin is in for treat in October and not only fans of Four Tet but also everyone who loves innovative light installations will float back home illuminated all the same.

Absolutely. Think somewhere like New Zealand will have some very tricky decisions to make soon.

Why? Western Australia is now claiming to be Covid free, they have had their state borders closed for weeks. Anyone going in has to isolate in state provided accomodation for two weeks, properly locked down. NZ could/will do the same very easily.

I would imagine NZ & Australia have amongst the lowest general antibodies because they shut up shop quickly so the problem for them is if no vaccine comes or effective treatment in the next few months they are stuck in a position where they can’t let anyone in until there is a treatment, not many people will bother going or visiting Australia if they have to quarantine for 14 days.

They may be unable to reopen their borders to the wider world for a long, long time. The impact on trade and their economy could be very big.

England hospitals - 186 (was 332 last Friday)
Scotland 47 - This number is still very high in Scotland.
Wales 9

No deaths are good, but these are very encouraging numbers, Scotland not so much.

The numbers in recent weeks likely to explain Sturgeon’s reticence to ease anything quite so quickly. If you extrapolate by population size, Scotland is still a week or two behind most of England in the curve.

This thread is great, thanks to all the regular posters for keeping it going and on message.

I've decided to avoid every other covid thread from now until Monday, far too much conflict for a sunny day!

It's my go to thread. I glance at the others but this one gives focus
