"We have not signed any new players this week but we are in good positions with a couple," he revealed. "I'm sure we will get three of four players in while the transfer window is still open.

"There is still plenty of work to do with every player because they are all in different situations, but I wouldn't be surprised if we got a player in before Saturday. It can happen at any time.

"Some clubs are not sure if they want to let the player go, and some signings are made difficult through money, so every player has got their problem.

"Also, we don't just want to sign a good player, we want that player to be suited to our team, and fit into our style of play. We want to bring in the right player for the club."

Does sound promising. Nice to see Poyet confident in his dealings within the market.

That's the Martin Kelly who has STARTED European games at left back for Liverpool, this season?/ Or a different one?

Am I the only one who feels comforted by Gus not rushing into panic buys?

No - I'm pretty happy too. There is a massive log-jam in the system at the moment while Premier League clubs sort out who's going and who's staying (plus the ones in the middle who will be season long loans to Championship (or maybe decent League 1) sides.

I'm very pleased we are not splashing stupid cash. The fact that things are taking time is (to me) a clear indication that we are looking at decent players who are no doubt in demand and therefore persuading them to come to a League 1 side playing in the crappiest ground in the football league is not easy.

We have already made some decent signings (Greer, Sparrow, Ankergren, Calderon, Painter, Barnes....) and hopefully will make one or two more in the next week or so.

I reckon Camacho will sign tomorrow:albion1:

One can hope. I don't know if Poyet was being positive or negative saying: "The reserves game was too easy for him".

Does this mean he is too good for reserves, so should come straight into the first team, or does it mean we have to wait some more to see if he is ready?!?!? In all honesty, I reckon he will sign too

Well some of you really should be a little concerned. The first team squad is wafer thin, and after watching the ressies last night, on one stood out as being ready for a regular starter for the first team. We have already lost Nav for most of the season so we are already a man down on a squad that GP himself said was not strong enough. A long term injury Murray and we are a bit f**ked. We have an excellent first team, which if it suffered no injuries or suspensions, would be pushing for a play off place, but bugger all in the way of quality backup. Obviously, we won't need to worry about a relegation battle this year, but I think we look as though we are now settling for a mid table, or slightly higher, finish.

I am a liitle surprised at the lack of progress to strenghten the squad, as I can't believe GP would have signed his extended contract if he knew his hands would be tied so tightly in the transfer market. He is a good manager and may even become a great one, but if he is ambitious, as he seems to be, he is not going to want to hang around a mid table league 1 side for too long, and while the first team is good, the overall squad is miles away from a promotion one.

This hits the nail well and truly on the head... very sensible, IMHO...

Well, Gus said we were 3 players short BEFORE Navs injury so, by implication, we are now 4 short... he's right, and we ARE running out of time fast...

SI 4 BHA is spot on, the delay in signing at least two Championship standard players will cost us dearly, no promotion will not put bums on seats at Falmer because it will still be Division 1 football and we have had our fill of that.
It has been recognised that with a 22,000 seat stadium there is no need to purchase a season ticket, attendance at matches can be decided on results and standard of play which requires more than 30+ loan players.

Its a worry and the way things currently are we won't make play offs , however, on your other point, A BHA promotion team will get more support than a mid table one so if we are in L1 next year and up the top....this is the best for falmer

I dont think this is true. If you look at our history, its not what division we play in that counts, its whether we are winning games that seems to attract the fickle Sussex crowd.

So, even if we are in L1 next year, then bringing players that will mount a serious promotion push, plus winning games will I think at least provide us with an average home attendance of say 12-15,000
