Paddy Ashdown was pledging it, Labour mentioned it before they were elected and then as soon as they were in they dropped the idea all together. I'm with you on that, I've almost given up hope of it happening as it's never in the interest of the party in power to introduce it.

Well the story is that Blair, despite all the positive opinion polls, was still paranoid he may need the Lib Dems support to form a government and Ashdown agreed, with PR being what they wanted to achieve out of it.

When Blair won a landslide, he didn't need the LibDem's help and it was scrapped.

Apparently also according to Ashdown, the parties were going to merge around 1997 too with a LD or two in the cabinet, but Gordon Brown and John Prescott blocked it.

I think there must have been alot of Tamil Tigers seeking asylum. Free council house, free medical care, expect us to live by their rules etc etc.
Woops.. I think I've turned to Nick Griffin.

Yes generally you get planes from other countries. That's the point of airports really.

Haven't you heard of the KEEP AIRPORTS BRITISH campaign?

If it isn't the Isle of Wight/Man or Shetland Islands, it isn't permitted.

I personally rather fancy a journey on Turkmen airways, to a country where the dictator renamed months of the year after his family.

The last one, Virgin Nigeria. An airline started up purely on the back of mass migration to Britain from Nigeria.

Before some tedious student who never grew up gives me a lecture on the history of colonialism in West Africa, don't f***ing bother.

New Labour only toyed with the idea as a way of keeping the Tories out of power as they would lose seats under proportional representation. After May 1997 it was swept under the carpet and conveniently forgotten about.

I was reading today about their ad campaign around "British Jobs For British Workers", all the photos involved in which featured Americans and Italians, without a British person in sight.
