I'm not writing off his career yet. I'm saying that he is hugely overrated and overvalued. Which young players would you back in the years to come for England?....Dele Alli ( age 20 ) Marcus Rashford ( age 18 ) or Raheem Stirling. Both have more skill, better attitude and are simply better players.

Good point about Guardiola. If he gives Sterling a chance and rates him, then Sterling will definitely learn a lot. Just look at what Pep has done to Boateng, for example. Pretty mediocre at City, now one of the world's best defenders.

If he doesn't fancy him, though, he's got no chance.

To be fair he was very young at city and playing in a foreign country. He barely played as far as I can remember.

I dont think its to harsh. He hasnt reached his potential and gone backwards rather than forwards. He didnt handle his move to City well and comes across as rather big headed.

I agree - I think he is an excellent player; however, the original poster is also correct in that £50M is way too much to pay for him he is not worth that. He finds it difficult when he comes up against really good International defenders. The first game in the World cup against Italy in Brazil, he was superb. That put other defenders on notice. The very next game the Uruguayan's moved their big bruiser of a centre half out to the left back position to mark him and he butchered Sterling several times in the first 20 minutes and in my opinion Sterling hasn't been the same player after that match. He has become a lot more timid, since then.

The thing about Sterling it that he defies mathematics and probability. If you kept throwing darts randomly at a board then every once in a while you'd hit a bullseye, but Sterling is continuously getting bounce-outs and destroying the plaster.

A mate of mine who is a City fan and goes to all the games said a while ago that he doesn't see Sterling as having "it".

As in with some young players you can see that they just need more experience, better coaching, work on their physique etc and that with that they could become world class.

Sterling just has pace and he's not going to get quicker.

I hope he comes good but I won't be holding my breath.

This ' dip ' has lasted an awful long time. The latter period at Liverpool and the whole of his time, thus far, at Man City.
Lets review it in another 12 months and see if his career has kicked on. Personally, I think he has been found out and is struggling to cope with the pressure to perform.

They are massively rewarded for what they do, so is it not unreasonable to expect a certain level of performance?. Just mastering the basics would be a start but that seems beyond Sterling.

I agree. Let Guardiola see what he is about and if he stays at City then Pep will presumably rate him and I think he will be improved. Just because he was pants yesterday and last Saturday doesn't mean he is a bad player.


So he has just been pants for two games has he? You clearly haven't seen any of his latter career at Liverpool and the whole of his stay, thus far, at City.

There is a certain level of competence expected at International level and he hasn't shown it. Just running quick ain't good enough. He lacks the ability to lift a top side like City.
