Well, an Englishman who lived in France. Regardless, I don't see the problem with fans dressing up as Crusadors in France. I wouldn't personally, the chain mail would probably chafe after a while. Harmless fun though.

The licence fee pays for BBC Online and iPlayer etc so includes iWonder and bbc.co.uk/news
However for certain parts of bbc.co.uk - you might see adverts outside of the UK when trying to view.

Indeed you do. Lots of Microsoft ones at the moment, particularly when watching a video. Also Google Ads on the bottom right of some pages.

Didnt stay long though.
Didnt the French or templer Crusaders wear Red crosses... and the English black?.. Cant remember.
Always seemed odd that British folk choose the red cross to me.

Ive seen some things on FB, regarding some of the anti Islam groups causing trouble, and seeking out muslims during the Euros... probably wont end well, but it could lead to innocent fans naively wearing these costumes to being attacked.

The discussion is quite relevant on the BBC.
Wandering around French cities whilst under a heightened terror climate, wearing a Crusader costume, probably isnt the wisest choice of attire during the Euro's.
People around the world trust the BBC over most other news organisations. Only people who seem to dislike it, are rightwing British people.

Hardly, there are plenty of people on both sides that have issues with the BBC, the licence fee and the bias (must be doing something right to annoy both) it supposedly portrays.
I think the BBC is just about the best value for money of ANYTHING I spend my money on
Sounds about right to me, I don't watch much live but I use the website, iplayer (for the shows I do like) and news channel almost daily so no complaints.

Why would I care if wankers are beaten to a pulp?
It was mostly individuals rather than groups, but I do think some of the anti islamist 'patriots' are capable of at least offensive chants, that could tarnish all England supporters. Not that they are not already a target I would think to the hard core militants..

I;m not entirely sure wearing Fancy dress is going to make you more of a target for the Islamic Militants to be fair, at least not more so than, well you know, people just going about their daily lives.

Who, the French bloke who never visited England?

He was born in England, where he spent his childhood; before becoming king, however, he lived for most of his adult life in the Duchy of Aquitaine in the southwest of France. Following his accession he spent very little time, perhaps as little as six months, in England;

TV licence fee £145.50

Sky subscription (for Sky Sports) £744.

I don't understand why print media organisations such at The Times and The Sun (proprietor Australian serial husband Rupert Murdoch) give the BBC such a hard time over the fee but ignore that Sky's (proprietor Australian serial husband Rupert Murdoch) monthly cost went up by £54 a year (i.e over a third of the cost of a TV licence).

There's a load of crap on the Beeb, but their commitment to education, nature, news reporting, both national and local, music and new artists in terms of writers, comedy and drama is pretty damn good.

I'm not sure that paying nearly five times the amount for the privilege of seeing Bournemouth v Burnley or Crystal Palace v West Brom live, or Fox News, or American reality shows, is worth it.

And if you really dislike the BBC, why not just sack TV off altogether, you can still listen to the radio for nothing, and no adverts too. Read a book, write a letter, mother things are getting better, watch the mirror, count the lines, the battle scars of all the good times...........

I'm not forced to subscribe to sky , I am however forced to pay the licence fee , hence my disquiet over this ridiculous piece , coupled with the BBC's constant whining over funding.....................

Im glad the BBC are using their budget so wisely discussing such crucial issues

http://www.bbc.co.uk/guides/ztvdg82#zcjxwxs

Seems a reasonable talking point to me, and therefore not a waste of money by the BBC.

What's acceptable? And is it only acceptable in some locations and not others or should that be ignored because it's just meant to be harmless fun?

Would Germans dressed as Nazi's, attending a game in Israel or Poland, etc... be acceptable? (Afterall, it's only harmless fun) And if not, how long after the event does it become acceptable? 10 years, 100 years, 1000 years.......never? (Extreme example I know and very unlikely to ever happen, no matter how much time passes but used for illustrative purposes)

Whether you like it or not, the knights costume is associated with the crusades and some countries were adversely affected by them and therefore could be viewed as a reminder of those conflicts (which may be one of the reasons for historical anti-western views in some parts of the world, the conflict, not the costume)

For these reasons, whether you agree or not, it's a question worth raising. The article is not trying to stop anything or picking on the English as some may try to turn it into but merely raising it as a talking point to provoke thought and discussion on the topic.
