Is it just me but I just find those snow icons far more relevant and exciting compared the radar like weather maps we see now, used to see a snow cloud icon with 3 flakes sometimes wow !!

I seem to recall prior to these that had a habit not to stick on the map sometimes a circle claret and blue snow icon, happy days ...........................

This is far too simplistic and easy to poke fun at if the black cloud and white dots fail to materialize , if the event fails these days its harder to slag off due to all the squiggles wavy lines and coloured pointy bits

US you know that many times I am on your side to a point and I accept that the potential for some more seasonal weather just tips out of the more reliable time-frame of say 5 days, but you have to admit the synoptic's offer a likely indication for colder weather, colder than the '6c with a few frosts' on day 6,7 and 8.

Only time will tell if this comes to fruition, but it seems strange on the one hand you dismiss the whole of winter without any particular scientific logic and then disqualify a weather pattern just 7 days downstream because it doesnt fit your earlier unsubstantiated predictions

We will see US but all we can do is base any likely outcome on the scientifically generated weather models, surely ?

I think the latest output models are marginal for snow

Not true. Colder weather is on the way for sure. My not particularly expert guess is that we will get and initial cold shot with a partial breakdown that will give a lot of snow to some followed by a much deeper and long cold spell.

As I say only my guess.

Seems unusual for there to be such obvious divergence between so many of the models though right so it must literally be on a knife edge right?

It is now. Yesterday it was probably 75/25 in favour of the cold. The trend is not encouraging.

BBC are forecasting a daytime max of 3 and a minimum of -1 for SE London next Weds through to Sunday. That's pretty cold regardless of what US says.
