I was wondering if this thread would be active!

GFS has stuck to it's guns along with ECM lately for this cold spell, although UKMO has not shown the same scenario. However it has moved slightly towards the ECM colder pattern, so expect more movement this evening form that Model to cold, especially as MOGREPS (Uk Met Model) is also trending colder, although not as quick as GFS. Still turning colder but not until late Monday/Tuesday.

What is interesting about this is if GFS is anywhere near correct then there could be some record breaking cold!

Just to check - when you say record breaking you are referring to the upper temps? This time of year it won't produce record surface temps, due to the stronger sun.

If this has occurred in early January however... :)

Please can we have an update on the forecast from our resident experts?

Thanks.

No change really - expect a band of rain to snow early Sunday afternoon, then a high risk of snow showers from then until Tuesday. The wind will be strong and the air unstable and very cold - could see hail / snow. AS per usual the further NE you are (near the North Sea) the better your chances of seeing lots.

After Tuesday is still a little unsure.
