As long it’s cold enough to kill of the Lillies
You get acquainted to heavy snow if you live in an area that regularly gets large amounts of snow. The city just to the east of us (where Pete Buttigieg was mayor & the Univ of Notre Dame is located) South Bend gets about 6 more inches of snow each snowfall than we do in the NW part of the state
Indeed. Roll forward 24 hours and it all (Feb cold) seems a lot less likely now. But this far out, it'll continue to flip-flop around for a while. The models do all have a tendency to want to "correct" back to the "normal" patterns too rapidly.True, but I'm not putting much faith in that, just yet.
Exactly (which is what the GFS is showing) and the signal is for westerlies (as in unsettled weather from the Atlantic) to take control once this cold spell breaks down (a fired up jet due to the pending extreme cold in the States doesn't help). It's after that (with the near Strat reversal lag) where we could have some more joy in Feb. As for next week, there's more chance of the disruptive snow missing us than hitting, but still a chance. Plus there is always the chance of snowfall anytime next week, very cold upper temps with scope for troughs to popup at short notice. I'm just going to enjoy the seasonal weather next week and if I see any snow, that'll be a bonusIndeed. Roll forward 24 hours and it all (Feb cold) seems a lot less likely now. The chance of a major snow event in the south on Wednesday seems to evaporated. The southern front which was predicted a few days ago to produce precipitation in southern counties seems to be not crossing the chanel now.
It was certainly a tad chillyYou are right, it's bloody freezing out today@
Certainly cold, but no wind makes it far more bearable than a few degrees warmer but windy. Perfect winter weather to wrap up warm and go out in - love walking in this weatherIncredibly cold outside here, +0.8c.
This afternoon was forecast to be +4c.
Great Lakes effect?
For the most part, yes. I drove back from South Bend to Valparaiso yesterday during the snowfall and I went through 3 different areas of weather. Heavy snowfall in South Bend, very wet snow in LaPorte County and heavy rain on top of snowfall in Valparaiso.

I went for a cycle today. Lovely. We have sun in Fav early next week which will make my annual intensive teaching trips to London tolerable.Certainly cold, but no wind makes it far more bearable than a few degrees warmer but windy.
