The only interesting thing about our winter's now is whether we can beat previous record high temperatures. Last December many records were smashed with night min's of 15C 59F and day Maximum's of 17C 63F, today more records may be broken in Northern Ireland 16C 61F and Scotland 17C 63F. The forecasts are showing very mild and SW for the next week at least
My car thermometer showed 15c after work today.

I think you're half right, I think it might not stay this mild for very long, but it really doesn't look good for any really cold weather in December at least.
Some forecasters are saying the beginning of January is the time for that.
We shall see.

To be fair I generally ignore what the BBC have to say.

If it's the BBC broadcast forecast then it's very reliable. If it's the online 5 dayer, then it's unreliable, as it's automated from raw data.

16C 61F for some places today and 13C 55F minimum tonight. 15F 59F tomorrow. This is the same as last year whereby the weatherman will now describe a maximum temperature by day of 10C 50F as " cold "

Looks like the SW is now firmly established and nothing from the East or North to be seen

What is Gavin latest nonsense ? That one for Xmas week he did recently is now laughable

Although it's odds on for a snowless Christmas, the models are still throwing up the odd white Christmas scenario, like pertubation 8 on the latest GFS.

In fact, for Xmas Eve 3 of the 20 (15%) have it snowing here.

Pert 8 looks like this...

And the local ensemble like this.

Another very mild and wet week ahead. Max temps by day 11 C - 14 C. SW winds all week. No signs at all of any change to this over the next few weeks

Well, he's pulled back from 3 months to a few weeks at least. Tea leaves must have been different today.

Have I been proved to be right ? Yes. The signs are for constant SW winds and very mild for the whole winter, a repeat of the last 5 winters

Not wishing to stir this up, but what 'signs' are you referring to that suggest constant SW winds and very mild for the whole winter?

Come on Unc, you always back the favourite anyway so you're always likely to get more hits than not, also your broad analysis makes your forecasts skewed in your favour.

You just say it isnt going to be cold sometimes irrespective of the charts or science further upstream, something you cannot possibly know and of course claim success if it never gets to 'very cold', which perhaps only an ice day might satisfy your interpretation of what cold is anyway, so very quickly whether it is 4 degrees or 14 degrees or anything inbetween you try and convince us you were right again.

Personally at times cold lovers need you to reign in their own bias, so carry on, but to say we have south westerlies for the whole winter is stretching it a bit .......

We have had Sw's all winter so far. Gavin has given up on a cold Christmas now

The MET Office has been pretty accurate in it's long range forecast that came out in November, we have been dominated by High pressure (as they predicted) but it hasn't been in the correct place to feed us the cold Easterlies needed.

IF it were to more more to the north over Scandinavia, this is all it would take for a change to colder weather to eventually move in.

An outside chance of something a little more seasonal on Xmas eve and Xmas day, 5C daytime max's and slight frost's overnight. Milder after that though
