I notice the medium term forecast are for cold weather at the end of November but also for extended cold spells in January and February, where there is more chance of snow in the South. So no more this year?

I'd pay little attention to the longer range stuff. It's no better than guesswork.

Indeed, but it's still interesting!

What's more interesting are the repeated signs of ridging to Greenland in the model output currently. Not enough to get cold ramp out, but enough to keep me watching the output.

Until that PV gets moved or split into two, we'll have to put up with a ridge nudging in Greenland at best.
What is interesting for the long term is pressure lowering in Europe, which will stop the High pressure from residing down there. All the time there are low heights in Europe (specifically Northern Italy kind of area) the more chance we can tap into cold air from a Northerly direction.

And the better 'support' any ridge has to stop it toppling.

The Express is at it again in tomorrows edition ...even going as far out as next Spring.

....BBC weather tonight talked about it being colder next week with the possibility of snow (no idea in uk that snow might fall)

This evenings ECMWF run has high pressure to the north or north west of the UK and easterly winds. Food for thought.

in that last bit...what I meant to say was ''no idea in what part of the UK it might snow''...i'm hoping up north as i am still grass cutting

Irony is my Mrs. Shitty Renault Megane scenic performs much better than my Beamer. Front wheel drive does the trick every time.

Beautiful, crisp, sunny days ahead, a hint of frost at night and 7-8 C max by day. Lovely.

This has been the Daily Express's headline every November for about the last 40 years.

" BRITAIN is braced for the "worst winter in decades" with the first major snowfall expected in weeks. "

What amazes me is they quote two forecasters in the report who sound raving mad. Who are they? Are they like the ERNEST of weather forecasting?

I've not read the article, but I'm guessing Jonathan Powell of Vantage weather will be involved. He's barking.
