It's the Daily Express, no need to panic. It will be back to " Scorching Indian Summer Predicted " next week.

Every. Bloody. Year. Those same group of crap papers make the same article, boring.

Saying that one of the boffins at Netweather things it'll be a cold one this year, I love cold winters but I almost hope not given energy costs...

This was the same newspaper who were warning of severe snow for October...funny how it's now November. Give it a few weeks and that will change to December. Clowns.

Me also. I love being able to keep warm when it is freezing out...but not at the moment when energy costs are so high and money is tight :/

Just seen The Express and I have to take my hat off to them, somehow they have doubled up the shock horror headlines to include the old "Diana : Murdered " chestnut. Astounding that this sad old rag still gives itself the line " The Worlds Greatest Newspaper " at the top of the front page.

I can see nothing in the model output to support this.

As i said on twitter, this story fails at this line "James Madden, forecaster for Exacta Weather"

Looking at trends, much like the last couple of winters, the low solar activity does provide a weak correlation with a meridional jet profile, which basically means very undulating, allowing northerly blocks to develop. So, I'd imagine many of the weather forecasters will go for a good chance of colder then average conditions this winter. However, there's no clear sign of anything wintry at the moment.

Winter is arriving in Scandinavia at the moment, so cold air is getting closer.

FYI, I'd expect the weather for the next couple of weeks to be pretty unsettled, with periods of rain, mainly average or above temps and windy at times. Nothing cold... Yet

Indeed. The snow and ice in the northern hemisphere this year is at 10 year record high levels and there is already very impressive amounts of cold air too our north. For the time of year anyway. I think it could be a cold one, just because of Sod's law really with rising energy prices and people saying they literally can't afford gas, putting the pessimistic head on its a done deal it will be a barnstormingly cold winter

I think today they led with "Police ordered to open new Diana SAS probe", which sort of made it look as though something official was afoot. When in fact it was a lawyer for Fayed telling Scotland Yard to get on with it.
