Ben Foakes was excellent in Sri Lanka on debut, and superb in India last time round (he set a new England record for most stumpings in a match didn't he?)

Foakes HAS to go, and has to play. YJB can fight for a batting spot.

However, VERY excited about James Rew.

19 years old. On his way to becoming a very good keeper, and has over 1,000 runs in Division One, including 5 centuries (the most in the league) and a top score of 220-something.
Foakes treatment by the selectors has been appalling over the last few years. Dropped first in favour of Buttler and then dropped in order to slot Bairstow into the team at all cost. Whilst Bairstow's form did pick up as the series progressed, his blunders basically cost us the first test when by his own admission he wasn't fully fit. Much has been made of the early declaration but had Foakes' taken maybe 50% of the missed Bairstow chances, the early declaration would probably be moot.

Dunno, the match we won at Headingly we were in a lot of bother, and there were quite a few other occasions where things suddenly swung (quite literally after that ball change).
Fair enough

At this stage I can't see us being anything other than battered in 18 months time.
Don't worry about 18 months, just enjoy the fact we won this time.

Just seen an interview with Broad on Sky and he said Stokes had already told him that was going to be his last over as he was going to bring Wood on. So Broad took that last wicket already knowing it was his last delivery in test cricket!

That's alright, it's two and a half years until we're back down there

Oh, it used to be 18 months (except last time due to the WTC calendar). They must have set it now.

There was an excellent piece during the rain break on Monday afternoon where Dan Norcross, Alastair Cook, Henry Moran and Andy Zaltzman attempted to pick an Ashes squad for 2027 (all purely hypothetical), Rew was pretty much unanimously the choice for keeper.
Bristow and Foakes in as batters. 😆

Aussies should lose a few stalwarts in the next 2/3 years too. Khawaja, Warner, Starc, Lyon, Hazelwood maybe....
Lyon is only 35, and widely reported to be an absolute fitness BADGER. He’ll still be there for sure.

I think from the interview it was the Murphy wicket he was referring to, Stokes then kept him on
