I think Cummins really regrets not withdrawing the appeal. He seems a proper good bloke and seemed uncomfortable when defending the decision.

Broad funny with Carey.

If his interview on TMS was anything to go by, he doesn't regret it one bit!

Summary of the series so far:
Two evenly-matched sides.
One side does too many stupid things.
The other wins.

Bairstow dismissal was a joke but our middle order threw it away in our first innings. It tends to be a losing battle when you play catch-up against the Aussies.
Absolutely bang on assessment.

Nah, we lost it with that early declaration in the first test
Well,if you want to go back in time we lost it when Captain Cook found the place in the first place, should have left it to the French

Slightly off topic .... Botham v Chappell
I know that they didn't like each other, but this is extraordinary.

Botham was close to hitting him several times

I was out this morning, didn't get until just after lunch, so I missed the Bairstow incident. I must say that the 'cheat' claims are a bit over-stated. I was umpiring a match a couple of years ago when a dozy batter did exactly the same thing: I gave him out and it didn't even occur to me to ask the opposing captain to withdraw his appeal.

It was quite noticeable that Atherton, Strauss and Morgan (all former England captains) saw nothing wrong and Strauss admitted he wouldn't have withdrawn his appeal if he'd been captain.

Still, it's added a bit of spice to the series - not that it needed much. Headingley should be like a bull-ring.
Preferred Cook’s take on it that as a captain after seeing it once or even twice he would have warned the player about leaving his ground - then he’d be fair game.

What Cummins has admitted to is that it was premeditated and therefore not just a reflex moment from Carey. Had it been spur of the moment I might have understood it, but premeditating it makes it even worse in my mind.

Toffs not happy.

Terrible take from an Aussie broadcaster. They’re unhappy about the SPIRIT of the game.

Imagine if that had happened when we played village cricket. Our friend Fergal would have blackballed the offenders for life.

Doesn’t excuse Bairstow’s stupidity though

The MCC are going to take disciplinary action for this outlandish behaviour….
I feel quite a few very strongly worded letters will have to be sent with a polite reminder that ties or cravats must be worn at all times too.

Yes - this is what rankles with me. Bit like charging to a new fielding position as the bowler is running up. Sneaky.

I don't see these as two evenly matched sides. On paper the Australian 11 is better in almost every position.
That we should have beaten them in both matches is both infuriating and remarkable in itself.
Taking home advantage into account and recent form, i don’t believe there’s that much between us. It would have been a travesty if we hadn’t been competitive, especially as they haven’t won a series here outright since, from memory
, 2001. 50/50 series before a ball bowled imho.

Fergal used to blackball people for looking at him in a funny way, and most definitely for life. He made Ian Chappell look easy going. He holds more grudges than Bairstow holds catches- that's for sure.

That was all a bit Jeremy Kyle. And set up to be so.
