The most curious thing..
I can't see much wrong with the story itself, although the subject matter was never going to be pleasant. It reads like a normal court report.
Yes, that's a perfectly understandable error when a headline (or story) doesn't use the use the definite article.
TBF to the Argus though it's often missed out, often along with pronouns. The sentence "The reality star Kim Kardashain and her former husband Kanye West" in tabloids will often be written as "Reality star Kim Kardashain and former husband Kanye West".

I can’t get the Argus site to work well in either Safari or Chrome, even with a good ad blocker with one of those. Within a second viewing always grinds to a halt ….. due to their obsession with pop up ads.

I'm pretty certain most people reading will understand exactly what is being referred to in either statement.
Argus should give up as a daily paper. I live in Hassosks now and Mid Sx Times as a once a week paper covers everything including local news, property and sport. Eastbourne Herald does the same. Argus should revert to the same as a Brighton and surrounding area weekly

Gents apologies if I’ve offended, upset or annoyed anyone on here over the this, it was the front cover of todays print edition that I thought was both unnecessary and in bad taste, maybe I’m from a different generation from a number of others.
I had known the lady in question and her family for a number of years, and frankly in my opinion they, and the lady’s memory, all deserve better from the local press regardless of the ‘newsworthiness’ of the tragic events.

I can only think of one answer to the above question regarding Sussex ex-pats suggested reading material and news source. It’s generally better written, has less adverts and the split/share of content leans towards football and what middle aged plus men care to bother with. As you’re here on NSC you can probably guess what I’m talking about.

The Argus is one of the few local daily news papers that has survived.
I remember when there was the morning version and the final Evening Argus.
The website is a mess with adverts but it is free.
For me it would be sad not to see a daily Argus anymore but I guess it will happen in my lifetime.
I still feel an affection to the Argus and it's an easy to give criticism to a paper in the day of the internet that should have not survived.

Yes That's why they miss them out because the sentence can still be interpreted correctly, and in the second example I gave still makes sense. As you say most will have understood the headline without the definite article, but some may take it as spoken: "Did you hear a woman was stabbed to death in Bath?" Certainly there's enough ambiguity for someone to make a, poor taste, joke about it.
