One big Heineken bus in North east corner and people with beer bottle dispenser packs wandering round - all at a fiver a pop.

One other thing about yesterday - you'll be able to go anywhere in South Africa and Japan and everyone will know where Brighton is now!

Thanks! The queues outside for a drink are pretty large- headed straight in to the Concourse and got a genuinely very good pint of Heineken (no queue) which I am supping in my seat. This is what a day watching the Albion should be like!

Feel very envious of everyone going to USA-Samoa today but frankly that's me being greedy - after yesterday's fantastic match I just want to see more international rugby in our beautiful stadium.

Queues for the catering seemed pretty standard (long, slow-moving) before kick-off but being able to buy drinks throughout the match spread out the demand thereafter. The, ahem, simplified beer options and simplified pricing probably helped the staff keep up with demand.

In the first season the Donny, Southamption, Palace, Leeds, Liverpool & more I can't think of were non stop noise. The second season Sheff Weds, Arsenal, Palace 3-0 and some others were also very noisy and atmospheric. I find it in recent seasons that the noise level has dropped and that's due to the crap on the pitch. But this season, if we carry on with the results, will get louder and louder. I get the feeling we still don't quiet believe in the team enough yet. When and if the Premier league dream actually starts to become reality, then the encouragement from the crowd will increase.
Also you are comparing it to a one off, say Brighton played in a Champions League at a Neutral stadium somewhere, then listen to the noise we'd make. If USA Samoa is noisier than any footy at the Amex has been, then I'll take your point. There were a lot of Albion fans there yesterday, so I trust they will be making the same noise level against Cardiff after setting such a high benchmark? I doubt it.
Lastly I think the whole thing about bringing beer in to the arena increases noise. If we could do it, it would get a lot noisier.

I went to all of the above and other than Burnley I genuinely don't think we've come close for sustained atmosphere, it was brilliant and not only that outright positive in every regard. I saw grown men crying from both sides but to a man the Saffers were in as much disbelief and praise of the Japanese. It was spell binding. One of those I was there moments in world sport and it happened at our stadium. Bloody brilliant.

As for the drinking at seats thing I really wish we were allowed it makes such a difference.

Naas Botha, one of the most famous SA players, who makes a fortune as a Rugby pundit on Supersport, has mysteriously disappeared from the Supersport studio! He was there at half time.

I haven't had any return texts from my connections over there. Mind you I did rub it in.

I went yesterday as I was offered a pair of tickets late Thursday night £40 each.
Met my mate at the casino at the Marina at 1pm and realised the tickets were actually £85 tickets and were in the 1901 club with access to the south mezzanine bar which had no one in there at all, the staff were pleased to see us walk in so they actually had something to do !!
Great atmosphere outside with everyone enjoying lots of beer in the sunshine, and inside was simply amazing.
The people of Brighton should be proud of not only our club and what a great asset our stadium is, but for how welcoming all the locals have been, both in the city and at the ground, it was great to see locals having a beer with both South Africans and Japanese visitors and embracing rugby.
It's a real shame sussex doesn't have a professional rugby club as there is definitely a fan base for one.

I understand, it was a moment in sport that only happens once a decade or century even in this case. Perhaps if we get to the Prem, you'll see a few grown men cry and the loudest Atmosphere the Amex has ever produced. The circumstances create noise more than the other way around. Today's game at the Amex being a case in point. Very quiet.

Don't get me wrong I blubbed like a child v Doncaster with the best of them and had to suppress a tear or two when we lost to them up the road in the Play Offs. As you say great drama begats atmosphere I just think we could do more to help them in that regard. This season on the pitch is already a breath of fresh air compared to last and it's still the same tepid affair off the pitch.

Onwards and upwards.

Perish the thought but maybe the Albion could start one?!

Just catching up with this thread having been to the game on Saturday.

Phenomenal day out, from meeting friends from Essex (who provided my ticket) in the Duke of Boots for Chelsea-Arsenal until catching the train back to Lewes at 10pm. My mate is Chelsea but one of our party is Palace and had never been to the Amex. Even he admitted it was a top stadium and a brilliant day out.

Trains were fine, no queues for beer (but no Harvey's) in the South. Best thing was the genuine banter (and I normally hate that word) with the Saffers. Young lad sat in front of us with his fit girlfriend. Back and forth as the game yo-yo'd with him turning round to give it the finger on lips when SA scored tries. At the end, he entirely crumpled as we celebrated in his face, but had the class to shake our hands before slipping away. Credit to the Saffers though, they took it much better than they might have: reports of them applauding Japanese off the train at Brighton after the game. We shook hands with anyone Japanese and did the little bow of respect. Back in the Lord Nelson, when a couple of Japanese showed up, people insisted on buying them drinks.

The atmosphere was fantastic and loud, not as loud in my view as the big Albion games, but less hostile, as rugby tends to be.
