With the obvious exception of Lawrenson, very few went on to better things.

I'm not sure of your definition of better things. but off the top of my head, all of the following went on to play in the top division, presumably on much better wages;

Dean Saunders
Michael Robinson
Steve Foster
Bobby Zamora
Jimmy Case
Sergei Gotsmanov
Eric Young
Peter ward
Gary Stevens
Paul Brooker!

A sell on that ended up being worth nowt, as the bugger went and stayed at Charlton for 30 years.

Didn't a tribunal set that fee?

Yes it did and we were screwed, there's also a case for Gareth Barry some might say.

Martin Keown, didn't we have him on loan, but couldn't afford to buy him?

He was never for sale, just here for experience. Same as Paul Dickov, and another lad called Gavin Oliver around the same time.

Who was the even smaller coloured guy we had on loan, partnering Dickov, up front?.

Sorry BoF, Scotty's the man on this one.
Flatts must be looking @ Dickov's career somewhat jealously.
As from what I remember, I may well be wrong, there wasn't that much between them, quality wise.

Ah yes!

That is a blast from the past!

I think Dickov was probably one of the best strikers I saw at the Goldstone (playing for us).

I agree with the previous posts, John Robinson gets my vote definitely. As we all know, he ended being a quality Premiership player and a long standing international, all for 75k.

Barry Lloyd, you were and still are an absolute knobend:angry:

Nah, quality wise Dickov was way above Flatts. Flatts was a winger but never really set the world alight down here. I think he went to Cambridge not long after returning to Highbury from us.

The issue here Phil is that the fee was set by a tribunal, so it had nothing to do with Big Bad Baz.
