It's a great deal for the Albion and Currie, if you look at the Ipswich message board they are gutted!

It's far better to sell him for £250k now that let him sign a pre-contract in January and him spend the rest of the season avoiding tackles to ensure he is not injured for his new club.

Compared to some of our previous sales (Dean Saunders for £60k, then went to Liverpool for £2.2million, Eric Young for £100k who then went to Palace for £900k) this is an excellent piece of business.

Good luck Currie, though I think someone conned Joe Royle when he was told he was gettiing the best 'Wide' man in the division.

Well, I hope Seagullible is right. Fair enough, Currie is about 30, or maybe exactly 30 but I just remember every time we got a corner I genuinely thought we were going to score, couldn't say that last season.

I guess none of us are privvy to the club's books so apart from my sourse ( who I have qualified by saying he does not attend board meetings) I have beased it all on gut feeling.

It's all getting too much for me. Falmer, Withdean, the spectre of relegation, selling players, players contracts up for nrgotiation. The funny thing is, I know the club will always be there in some form and U will always support them but it doesn't stop it hurting.

Oh f***ing hell, I'm having a breakdown on NSC now.

f*** it, I'm right up for MILLWALL tomorrow and the NSP boys are going to take over London and we will win and Claridge will get the winner CCOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.

Ps, THOMAS, I was trying to write loads really quickly as got a lot to do today but this is more important.

We just f***ing need a Falmer decision! Hurry Up Fat Boy

The Currie takeaway is a blow, but the fee, along with the Spurs cash we will get, might just release a few bob for MM to bring in a couple of loan signings till the end of the season. McGhee was already making noises about tapping up the chairman for some money towards a loan signing when the cup draw was made - we'll get at least £300 - £350k from that match alone. Now with this windfall as well, I'm certain we will see a couple of players come in on loan to bolster things.

I'm gutted to see him go, but you just can't turn down that kind of offer for a player like him. A quarter of a million quid for a lower division journeyman the wrong side of 30, less than 6 months after we picked him up for nothing - its a no-brainer.

Even if on the back of the paper they talk about a crippling financial crisis?

Not exactly NEWS though is it ? We've known all along that we are financially in the shit, thats been the case for donkeys now. It was obvious when the begging bowl went out to supporters.

Look at it this way. Despite the crippling financial crisis, we still added Steve Claridge to the payroll. Now I know he's hardly going to break the bank, but he's not playing for buttons either. And since then, the club have had a windfall out of the blue of around £600,000.

We could now sign a couple of players on loan, and even if they were BOTH on as much as £1500 per week each, for January through till May, that would be a total cost of £60,000 in wages. And the club will STILL have well over half a million pounds of unexpected cash in the bank. Does that really sound out of the question ?

No, no it doesn't but I wouldn't expect the club to dive into the transfer market straight away. I want them to but they won't.

This money will ease a bit of financial pressure caused by those TOSSERS from Falmer but I wouldn't be certain that the money will be used on the team.

Well I'd agree that I think PERMANENT tranfer signings will be too much to hope for - I can't see any of this money being used as a transfer fee for anyone. But it will free up McGhee's hands a little with regard to bringing in a couple of loan players, and I expect (and hope) we will see a couple of loan arrivals in January.

Thats the least I would expect.

Thanks Dick Knight aint you been watching the Albion, he been our best crosser of the bloody ball for ages.

:( Where the money going to go.

Go back to your girlfriend or has she dumped you??
This is good for the club, we are not a one man team ffs. Money is needed and this will allow us to get players in. £250k for a 30 year old who drifts in and out of games is fantastic business. We beat West Ham away without him so why can't we beat other teams? :censored:

Especially as Harding will be on his way too.

Ok, maybe not FACT but certainly a fair assumption. Hart and Jones didn't create much for us in Division Ywo, let alone the Championship and McGhee does get to see them all week in training and clearly thought Currie was a better player. I would go as far as to say Jones (an I really like him) is one of the worst crossers of the ball I have ever seen. I think the last goal we scored from one of his crosses was when Bobby smuggled the ball in at Bristol City a few years ago.

Having said what I said, I do concede that our best result of the season came when Currie didn't even play (much) against West Ham.

Huh?? ???

I was under the impression Jonah set up at least half our goals last season?

I can see why the club have done the Currie deal, but it is also obvious that he was the only creativity in a team that doesn't score that many goals.

The board brought in 38 year old Claridge, now they've sold our most creative player, it looks likely that Harding will be off shortly.

However, we're already halfway to survival, points-wise, and I believe we could survive if only we could get one or two decent loan signings.

I have a feeling that once this season is over and we reflect back, December may turn out to be the make or break month...
