Maybe i should have put this on the Amex/Harveys thread but thought i would start a new thread.
Hiney and others were going on about cider at the Amex, last night we went to see a friend in Weston-Super-Mare one of them is a cider afficinado. Now i like cider but it is not my drink of choice, but he got out some bottles of Thatchers Katy a single apple 7.4 cider and it was fantastic.
It may already be well known to all you cider drinkers out there, but if not am i right or wrong, if you have never tried it please do, i thought it was nectar. My mate swears that Thatchers is the best, and Katy is the best one they brew.

I am a cider novice, so interested to see real cider drinkers opinions, either way i will certainly be trying others from now on from your recommendations.

:cheers:Would much prefer Stowford Press as a draught cider. Then again might be a bad idea as i would be queuing more often and visiting the toilet rather than watching the footy

They used to have this stuff on tap at a pub in Cambridge, a couple of pints was more than enough. At 9-15% you had to take it easy.

I dont even know if katy is available on draught, we had bottles last night. I did not know that cider can taste like that it was like a cross between cider and sweet wine, and very strong, what have i been missing out on.

I was in The Alibi for the England game, and the only cider they had on tap was Stowford Press (99% sure it was that), lovely taste to it.

Can't beat Gaymers Old English though...

My mate swears that Thatchers is the best, and Katy is the best one they brew.

Thatchers is made about 4 miles from me in a village called Sandford, they do a big range now, but although Katy is good its a bit strong for anything other than a couple at 7%+..... their best by a mile is Green Goblin at 6%, with Gold and Old Rascal just behind them.

Oi've bin drinkin' zoider for the best part of 35 years.

My current favourites, in this order:

Aspall's
Thatcher's Gold
Symonds
Stowford Press

Magners and Bulmers are OK.

I don't mind the odd pint of cloudy flat stuff, like Addlestones, but I do like a cold and fizzy one in summer, for the old thirst, like.

Strongbow is pish, as is Dry Blackthorn (in fact, does that even exist anymore?). Gaymers is absolutely tasteless by the way. Its like drinking soda water.

The bloke last night was also born in that area. Just popped down my local spar and they had some katy and goblin so will go back now and try that tonight. They also had a plastic flagon of thatchers scrumpy although, even in my nievity i suspect that will taste very different.

This.

There are LOADS of better ciders than Strongbow.

Stowford Press as a draught cider would be EXCELLENT at The Amex.

Right thats it, hopfully the pub selected for the footy tonight has stowford on draught and i will forego the usual doom bar and tribute. If not i will scour Plymouth for it this week.
