Did we nick that from somewhere or just invent it?

For those that never saw it yesterday, involves about half a dozen Albion players forming an orderly queue in front of goal before the kick gets taken. Looks pretty hard to defend against, has to be said. Or at least harder than the traditional MELEE

Just need to get the ball past the 1st man something Gross struggled with yesterday

Been around for years, this from 2016

Wouldn't be surprised in Bolton Wanderers didn''t use this under Big Sam

Nice to see Peter Crouch enjoying himself.

He came across as a bit dopey on BT Sport yesterday. Thought Rio was excellent though; I have warmed to him post playing career.

How much input does Dan Ashworth have on training? Is this something he may have developed and brought across from the national team?

Hadn't really thought about that, perhaps you are right

Would be harder to defend if we had someone who could take a decent corner or free kick

Agreed, the ball either doesn't make it past the near post defender, or overshoots and ends up on the far edge of the penalty area.

Must admit though, Burn was immense defending corners yesterday, pretty much headed every one clear.

Brighton / Hove actually
No you can't, while there is not a direct rule that covers this, it has by convention been deemed as unsporting behaviour and against the spirit of the game. Indirect free kick and caution for players involved if ref applies letter of the rules...

So what if the jumping player uses a team mate's shoulders to push themselves up on in a subtle manner? They climb all over each other in a scramble anyway.

It’s a very old routine which has been developed over time. First recall Sutton United using it in 1987 against Coventry City when Matthew Hanlon scored the winning goal.

First time I remember seeing it was ironically Arsenal Adams, Keown, Bould etc but that is before that. So yea it isnt new at all.

If you can be subtle you might get away with it, the OP didn’t have subtle in mind, as he was asking about lifting players up, like a rugby line-out!

I'd think about it like this. If you were a defender, and you knew you had to mark a particular player at a corner, and you saw them lining up like that, what counter-measures would you produce to try to defend it?

The only vaguely plausible one that I can think of is go zonal, but that's difficult without a lot of coaching.

We should keep on doing it
