this is the only decent post on this thread i cant believe what some people have written on here. i like probably every other single person on here have never contemplated suicide therefore i do not know what it is like to feel that desperate or lonely for whatever reason. his family will feel the full brunt of this whilst still trying to cope with the loss of someone they love. my dad was an alcoholic and died when i was 13 and my mum left me and my sister when i was 5. i was pretty messed up desperate child by 12. i did go through a period of depression a few years back and its not a very nice place to be.

this man obviously needed help and was crying out for help. like someone esle said the thought that he could kill others probably didnt enter his mind. they say that suicide is a selfish act because of the ones you leave behind. to call this man scum is pretty low i think. there are much worse people in the world. i am sure that where ever he is now he may very much regret involving and killing others. also from what i have read the train actually derailed after passing over track points not directly after striking the car.

A year ago, I was feeling suicidal, down to a deep depression. Thankfully didn't have a go. But boy, when you're feeling so low that you're actually thinking about taking your own life, it is a f***ing frightening place to be.

It's not like an illness or injury, say like breaking your leg, where you know you'll be better in x number of months. Mental illness, which is what depression is, is incredibly frightening, the end is sometimes nowhere to be seen, and when it gets that way, ending your life to end the unhappiness is an option that many people consider. I dread to think how low this man must have been to have actually gone and done it, but I and I think WE must not have hatred or contempt for this man.

Sadly, yes, innocent people were killed, but he probably thought the car would simply get bulldozed off the road - as I've been told, usually happens - and that would be that. This man was not Fred West, was not Myra Hindley. He was a deeply ill person, who came to the end of his tether. God rest his soul.

What an idiotic posting. Dignitas do not 'trade in suicide', they aid those with terminal illnesses whose pain is so bad, or who feel that their dignity is so compromised, that they wish to die in peace at a time of their choosing. It is NOT a service for the depressed.

Dignitas director Ludwig Minelli, a Swiss lawyer, explained that his organization will accept people who are terminally ill, have Alzheimer’s disease, are depressed, or have other forms of mental illness. Accepting patients in the last three categories puts into serious question the "rational" death wish requirement.

While there is nothing in Swiss law which formally legalizes assisted suicide, the practice is tolerated if the suicidal person self-administers the lethal drugs and the person’s suicide decision is deemed rational.

i agree. also like someone said above they have not yet confirmed it was suicide they also think it may have been a mechanical fault. if it was and it was an accident how bad would people here feel i wonder.
