The reaction is so over the top it's ridiculous.

So when a few nutters flew a few planes into the twin towers it was "oh but Islam is a peaceful religion on the whole"

I remember a friend who lived that way for many years and his balanced view was that they are 2 different cultures depending on whether they are the minority or majority.

I always get a huge whiff of a distrustful under belly from Islam and nothing has ever changed my mind

funny thing is, this video has apparently been on youtube for months. it was re-released/uploaded and suddenly triggered all this outrage. its orchestrated, most of those protesting probably never seen it - its the islamic equivalent of complaints about Ross & Brand's Sachs phone call. with a bit more violence.

Terry Jones in Florida did not help by advertising and then screening the film as his annual 9/11 tribute/celebration, the main demos started 9/12

Watching their orchestrated protests, car burnings, and staged indignation confirms why I have no time for religion. This planet would be a much safer place without religion.

Nah, people would just find other excuses to be self-righteous morons.

It's not just Islam. There is a near "Christian Taliban" on the rise in the States. Texas governor (and former Republican presidential nominee candidate) Rick Perry has just had another go at secularists and athiests, who he defined as "the enemy".

Firstly, I want my politicians to make their decisions based on their own rational thought, as opposed to what their own brand of pixie told them.

Secondly, secularists do not seek the "end of religion", simply it's decoupling from the state. Secularism gives you complete freedom to pursue your own religion without fear of persecution from the state.

Harrumph! Cue binfest.

If you ever get the chance I thoroughly recommend reading 'God Is Not Great: The Case Against Religion.' by the late Christopher Hitchens, its not only a decent read but it completely cemented my anti-religion beliefs and proves with countless examples how all religion is an out of date concept and is the root of the majority of the worlds larger social problems and wars.

In London village.
Maybe we should get a few Muslim players playing for us, give them some joy - seems such an angry, miserable religion.

Unlike those fun loving Christians in the UVF, IRA, KKK or Jewish settlers in the West Bank ?

Christianity:

A little girl is standing on top of a cliff, looking down at the sea and crying her eyes out. A priest approaches and says, "My child, why are you so upset?"

The little girl turns to him and says, "My mummy and daddy were in their car -- and it just rolled over the cliff and smashed on the rocks down there."

The priest slowly looks around him while unbuttoning his cassock and says, "It's just not your day, is it?

Islam:

A Muslim walks into his local mosque with a big grin on his face.

"What are you so happy about, Abdul?" Asks the Imam.

"Well, I'll tell you," replies Abdul. "I live by the railroad tracks and on my way home last night, I noticed a young woman tied to the rails, like in the American movies. I cut her free and took her back to my humble abode. Allah be praised - we made love all night, all around the tent. We did everything, me on top, sometimes her on top, every position permitted by Mohammed, Peace Be Upon Him!"

"By the most Merciful," exclaimed the Imam, "you have been blessed. Was she as beautiful as a desert flower?"

Abdul grimaced, "By the Jinn, I do not know - I never found her head.

I don't get why the second recycled joke has any link to Islam?

Most definitely. Not in our lifetime, but I think one day this will be the dominant religion in our country. If these riots are anything to go by, and the way some people have become so extreme, I think this will be one crappy country to live in. Even worse I feel that anybody who does not have the same beliefs as they do will eventually be pushed out and victimised.

It's sad to say that already in this country, as seen on TV and in the papers, we already have these type of extremist elements trying to impose their own types of religious laws behind closed doors. It's awful, and the more I read and learn about this, the more respect I lose not just for this religion but all religion.

"I call upon these countries and say: Yes, freedom of expression is there, but you should make laws regarding people insulting our Prophet. And if you don't, then the future will be extremely dangerous."
 you can have freedom of expression, but if you make fun of our imaginary god, it's war.
