Will reduce the LEGAL guns in circulation, illegals would still be un effected plus supplemented by arms from overseas. Why does someone have to have this explained? Its real basic stuff.

Oops! " legal " guns cause most of the fatalities anyway.... That's basic stuff that gets overlooked. If EVERY gun in America became a spoon at midnight how many fatalities would be caused by spoons in the next 24 hours?....

Still, not my problem. I'm sad for the deaths that will keep occurring but there is a logical and obvious solution.

Not from what you posted. None of the school shooters had legal firearms as they are not registered to carry. Its not rocket science, disarming a group of people leaves them at the mercy of those with guns who will also see an easy target, well maybe it is rocket science to you.

The most recent atrocity was aided by the accused stealing the legally owned guns of his father. If his father had no guns in the house it would have been harder for him to get guns surely ? ....Best lets stick to the old system though as its obviously working isn't it ?

Absolutely no concept of the idea that gun control, when talking about so many millions, is generational and not an overnight quick fix.

The fact that if America took action after the Texas A&M (?) sniper attack in the mid 70's guns in America wouldn't be an issue now.

Honestly, Americans don't think much of stabbing deaths in London unless they are traveling to London. Stabbings just don't get the same publicity that shootings in high schools get. There are many shootings in large US cities but they get about as much publicity as stabbings in London.

I can't be arsed with you anymore, forget numbers, it's been analysed over and over again. Guns Kill, More guns the higher chance of an accident or being used or stolen to commit murder or crime. no point in arguing this point anymore, America's problem fortunately, not ours.

Having recently dated a Houston girl that has a multiple gun-owing father and brother that regularly used their rifles for weekend recreational hunting trips, I saw firsthand how integral guns are to many ordinary people in Texas.

There's currently no likes on her FB post requesting 'Prayers for Santa Fe'.

That's either because the majority like Houston's Chief of Police aren't interested in empty virtue-signalling platitudes expressed on social media, or it's because gun owners are equating expressing sympathy with supporting increased gun controls.

One might optimistically like to think it's the former, but, on balance, it appears to be the latter.

A complete mindset change is needed from ordinary folk as much as action.

13,286 people were killed in the US by firearms in 2015 where gun control is pretty much non existent.

26 people were killed in the UK by firearms in 2015 where gun control is tight.

I know I will probably get flamed for this opinion, given that it is a football forum, and that a large %age of posters seem to be chaps (including I), but the glaring thing that is still being under discussed is that this mass killer was - shock, horror - male. Blame it on toxic masculinity, the patriarchy, misogyny - whatever - but it is evident to me that there is a global need to instill empathy into our young men. The latest reports suggest the Santa Fe HS shooter was trying to get back at a female student who was rejecting his advances. This comes a couple of weeks after the bloke who ran down folks in Toronto was suspected of being aligned to the "incel" movement, and of being inspired by another killer in Santa Barbara.

Sadly, of course, rape and sexual violence have been around for millennia. Some will point to biology, others enculturation. Also it has to be said that the feminist movement has made great advances over the last 50 years or so, and on the whole, conditions for half the world's population have improved in many places. However, it seems to me that in the virtual world - where impressionable teens spend a huge amount of time - there are things happening in the intersection of gaming, pornography and nationalistic/conspiratorial politics/fake news, that are: a) very anti-feminist/misogynistic and b) very good at dismantling empathy. I don't visit these areas, so my hunch might be nonsense, but I am very concerned about the hate that is seemingly being incubated, and is being taken to horrific extremes by some isolated young men.

Good points, I can add that in japan there are many men who feel unable to sustain or attempt a relationship with the opposite sex so they withdraw from social interactions and live as virtual recluses in their bedrooms at their parents houses. They are mostly too restrained to go on killing sprees fortunately.
