These ****s need validation for everything these days, look at me I’m on a call “doing business” I’m an entrepreneur, I'm a success, it’s actually quite a pathetic need.

I recall a few years back getting a train back from Victoria and sitting opposite some dickhead in a cheap suit with ankle swingers and no socks having a “senior leadership team call” on loud speaker, despite having a pair of headphones more expensive than the suit that we’re working a few mins before. It was totally unnecessary for the carriage to listen to this, it was probably equally unnecessary for me (opposite) to tell Richard on the other end of the line that no one in the carriage cared about his new mandate structure. He was equally surprised that he was on speaker phone as well

I get regular calls from customers and potential customers, if I’m working in a customer’s property and they are at home I have my phone on silent and never answer it. If the caller wants me they can leave a voicemail or text.
I would also never answer my phone in a cafe, because I’m eating and I’m thinking of the other people in the cafe.
Thankfully I don’t have to do zoom calls or meetings.

IMO it’s good manners and I don’t want others knowing my business.

this is something that was not covered in my history lessons……sitting in Starbucks in 1824…i feel i have missed out
Well, I'm not going to comment on the quality of your education. But you might remember Blackadder visiting Mrs Miggins' Coffeehouse in Blackadder the Third.

"Historians strongly associate English coffeehouses with print and scribal publications, as they were important venues for the reading and distribution of such materials, as well as the gathering of important news information.[54] Most coffeehouses provided pamphlets and newspapers, as the price of admission covered their costs. Patrons perused reading material at their leisure.[55] Coffeehouses became increasingly associated with news culture,[56][57][58][59][60][61][62] as news became available in a variety of forms throughout coffeehouses."

Well, they can get in the sea, along with any disrespectful, noisy customers.

I'll regularly sit on my own in a coffee shop while my wife is shopping, and browse my iPad, or watch some sport - always with no sound. Any place that somehow thought that was a problem to anyone, can get f***ed.
I’ve “liked“, but I think “always with no sound” is the key.

A few years ago on a crowded cross-country train a bloke standing at the end of the carriage participating in a similar call very loudly. When it came to the “I think we’re going to have to let him go, one older lady by me said to her companion in a loud stage whisper “I think we’re supposed to be impressed”.

the whole carriage creased up!
