When did people stop holding their phone up to their ear to take a call? The number of people I see holding their phone in front of their face on speakerphone, like they're on an episode of The Apprentice. Why? What possible benefit is there for doing that, other than annoying everyone around you because you're shouting into the phone and the other side of the call is being played out loud?

I don't like it as I'm nosey & want to hear what the other person is saying. 
Music or tik tok etc being played without ear phones drives me insane.
2 years ago a couple of teenage girls got on the bus & were driving me (and I assume the other passengers) mad with some really crap tinny sounding dance music. I'm not sure if it was the music or being annoyed at what rubbish constitutes dance music these days. After 10 mins or so I came up with a plan that wouldn't involve me just telling them to STFU.
I waited until the next track had just started, put on a really sad face, went over to them and said....
'I'm really sorry girl's but could you turn it off please, it's just that it was my mum's funeral yesterday & they played that track when the curtains were being closed, it's a bit raw at the moment'.
They very kindly turned it off, apologised & said they hoped I was ok. Somehow I kept a straight face said 'Thanks, I'm ok' and went back to my seat. Unfortunately I couldn't turn around to see how they were reacting to the thought of an elderly lady having whatever crap it was, played at her funeral. They got off 5 mins later, it amused me for days after!

Yonks back when mobile phones were just mobile phones I was sitting in a cafe having lunch with a mate, we had decided to catch up when we were both working in same town that day.
Behind us sat what turned out to be a sales manager and sales rep holding a telephone conversation with what must probably have been another employed by same business.
They were happily talking away in the old Dom Jolly voice volume. Their discussions were all about one of their clients for whom they were the incumbent supplier and were having to re-tender for. Mr big sales manager was literally reading through the products, line by line, stating his cost prices, line by line, his margins, line by line and followed by their new submission.
What they didn’t realise was my mate worked for one of their competitors and who was had also been invited to tender for the same customer.….. He found it really quite interesting and extremely beneficial. Strangely he won the contract having submitted a tender that was better than Mr Sales Managers …. odd that.

Yes only an hour ago I saw someone from another office to mine in our shared common area going full pelt on a business call in this way. I really felt like snatching their phone and throwing it from the 4th floor window. There was no reason for doing this. In addition to the reasons and influences stated in this thread I think it is also that social media has created a climate for all information posted being in the public domain with no regard for truth or relevance to the audience, hence the 'share my phone call' trend is simply the audio version of sharing-my-shite-like-it-or-not represented on social media.......

Because every **** thinks they are the special star of their own life they believe what they and their equally porcine, idiotic mates have to say to each other is of interest to the entire immediate area.
