But I would imagine we'd rather not have to play pervis out of position for a full 90 in this game. Higher chances of an injury recurring.
Agree with this. But if we can get an hour out of him, he can have a couple of weeks to recover.

I think in a couple of positions we may find ourselves having to take more risks than we usually do.

Yes, under normal circumstances I suspect Pervis would have been pencilled in for 20-25 mins V Spurs and half a game V West Ham.
It will be a disaster if he breaks down tonight and out again for a few months.

What's the difference between starting and coming on later? It could be better to start him then replace him when he's out of steam, than bring him on and then have to replace the sub.
Match sharpness is usually what I interpret “not fit enough to start”. By that, coming on after 60/70 mins when everyone else is already a bit tired and he is at a similar level. Starting a player who has 20/30 mins in the tank against fully fit opponents seems much riskier in my Opinion.

Assuming Hinshelwood isn't fit to start but Pervis is...

Steele
Gross, JPvH, Kavanagh, Pervis
Baleba
Gilmour, Milner
Buonanotte
Pedro, Ferguson

Welbeck, Dahoud, Webster, Moder, Hinshelwood able to come off the bench.

Will be tough but it's still a good enough team to get a result. Especially if Paqueta & Kudus are out.

If Hinch does have a 'problem' which requires a late fitness test (what happened to those anyway?!) then I'd imagine he is going to be 100% in or 100% out tonight.
They've had 5 full days since Spurs so I'd be surprised if Welbeck doesn't start.
Ferguson looks quite low on confidence to me, I thought that we noticeably dipped when he replaced Welbeck, hopefully 90 minutes on Saturday is where he can start to change that.
Moder must be getting closer to be able to start, has looked quite sharp.
Webster, not in this one thanks, Saturday please once Dunk is back.

Bart in goal, Steele at CB.

Just have to keep reminding him not to use his hands.

What could possibly go wrong?
There are those on here who who tell you he doesn't get his hands on much anyway. Personally I'm a fan

Ferguson looks to bit off it at the moment.
If defenders get up close to him, he seems to struggle. Give him a yard and he can be deadly, but close man-to-man marking and he looks a little weak right now
The lad is getting booted from pillar to post. He's had no protection at all. Agree his hold up play needs work, i'd also like to see him spin and run in behind more often

What's your logic here?

If we can field two fit experienced centre backs, for what will be one of the toughest physical and aerial tests of the season, surely we must?

I might have imagined it, but I am sure he won us a penalty on Thursday.

Because Webster hasn't played in over 2 months, is notorious for needing matches to get back to 100% and had an absolute mare against this oppo in the reverse fixture. It would also likely mean JPvH having to play on the left.

For those suggesting Kavanagh, he's just gone to Derby on loan...

Edit or maybe he hasn't - the news article has today's date but I don't think it is... ignore me

I suspect that unless Igor has made a miraculous recovery or we name a specialist CB from the Dev Squad, even when the team is announced, we'll still have no idea who is playing there, much like RDZ's teams when we are guessing who plays at full back ;-)
