I'm gonna make a statement here. I don't think the following were at the game on Saturday at Cov:

London Irish
Stumpy Tim
KevinSmith
FatBoy
FourthTeamTilIDie
Silent Bob
True Blue

Am I right?

The reason for this assessment is that you have all selected to play Virgo and McCammon up front as the striking pair. When this pair played together at Highfield Road they were very poor.
I don't think two big men up front works - we need big-guy, little-guy (height and pace).
So Virgs with Jake or Molango or McPhee
OR
McCammon with Jake or Molango or McPhee
But not thr two big fellas together.

I was at Coventry, and I chose Molango and McCammon :lolol:

I've changed my mind now though, I think i'd play Jake with either Virgs or big Mac.

Are you sure you didn't first say "Virgs up front, probably alongside McCammon" ?

I said that second. But I've changed my mind. In all honesty I have no f***ing clue who we should play. Should we move Virgs back to defence to stop leaking goals even though he's the only one that can score? should we start Robinson or would he be more effective of the bench? Is molango up to it?

With Robinson back in the fold, I'm changing my line-up! Will be good to have two goalscorers up-front for a change

Code:
                    Blayney

       El-Abd Dolan Butters

Reid Harding

         Hammond Chippy Oatway

           Robinson Virgs

Subs:

Shabaan
Watson
Jonah
Nicholas
McCammon

Not in my case. Block C Row 3 Seat 20. I disagree that Big Mac and Virgs are similar players just because both are big players, their playing styles and strengths and weaknesses are dissimilar. Virgs, pace, striking power, movement, running towards goal. Big Mac, aerial power, back to goal, holding ball up, offloads.

I would guess the chances of Robinson starting are pretty remote, but McGhee does want an impact bench to either replace a tiring Big Mac or to put Virgs back in defence, so probably both Jake and Maheta will be on there.

Does anyone think he will play anything other than McCammon and Virgo up front?

McPhee would be next in the pecking order and then on form Molango and recalled Robinson can fight it out for a possible other spot on the bench.

I am more worried about who is going to play on the right and left side of midfield. Jones? Watson? Cox? Desperation....

The 3-5-2 solves that. I know it's a gamble on El Abd being up for such a huge game at the back, but I think playing either of those 3 players you mention in a 4-4-2 would be as big a gamble. The fact that McGhee gave El Abd a little run-out on Tuesday just makes me think he'll get the nod.

The 3-5-2 would have solved a lot of problems but it has not been employed.

I expect we will end up with at least three of Oatway/Carpenter/Hammond/Nicolas across the middle, possibly with a striker masquerading as a winger.

It has not been employed because Leon doesn't fit into that system - the 4-4-2 was mainly for Leon's benefit, as it was for Currie earlier in the season. Neither of these players fit the 3-5-2, which was why both were dropped at West Ham.

However, on Saturday that obstacle is removed and it will be a straightforward choice of whether we risk El Abd at the back or your trio of rather dubious looking left flank players.

It's times like this that I wish David Lee was still here.

Have we only got 17 professionals available for selection on Saturday?

We have got ... (ether Pros, or have featured this season in the squad)

Goalkeepers: Alan Blayney; Rami Shaaban; Chris May

Full-Backs: Paul Reid; Dan Harding

Centre-Backs: Joe Dolan; Guy Butters; Adam El-Abd; Joel Lynch, Gary Elphick

Central Midfield: Alexis Nicolas; Charlie Oatway; Dean Hammond; Richard Carpenter

Wingers: Nathan Jones; Dean Cox

Strikers: Maheta Molango; Adam Virgo; Chris McPhee; Mark McCammon; Jake Robinson

So 21 players to pick from ... but if we are only looking at those who have "significant" first team experience this season (i.e. 10+ first team starts for us - "us" is important because it means they are used to playing alongside each other)

Goalkeepers: NONE

Full-Backs: Paul Reid; Dan Harding

Centre-Backs: Guy Butters;

Central Midfield: Alexis Nicolas; Charlie Oatway; Dean Hammond; Richard Carpenter

Wingers: Nathan Jones

Strikers: Adam Virgo; Mark McCammon

do in effect we have TEN First team players available
