Mixed week for Tarkowski...facing a ban but chosen by Sky Sports as the BEST PL player so far this season not representing the Big Six.

In fact, it might give Seagulls fans some pleasure to know that Tarkowski pipped top penalty-winner Wilfried Zaha into second place

Burnley also had Ben Mee 3rd overall and Nick Pope 6th equal while the Seagulls had Shane Duffy in 9th place.

Based on WhoScored ratings the Top Ten was:

1 Tarkowski (7.40)
2 Zaha (7.26)
3 Mee (7.24)
4 Doucoure (7.22)
5 Maguire (7.21)
6= Schindler (7.19)
6= Pope (7.19)
6= Zouma (7.19)
9 Duffy (7.17)
10 Richarlison (7.16)

Tarkowski beat Zaha to top spot, but guess what? The main photo at the top of the story on Skysports website was.....yes...Zaha.

One consolation for JT when banned.....his impressive rating will stay the same:)

Handful is literally the right word. You're actually underestimating Murray here. Tarkowski had only just signalled to the bench that he needed treatment for his left hand (possible dislocated finger, according to the radio commentary) when Murray went up to him and grabbed the hand. That's when Tarkowski elbowed. Now, if Tarkowski had had Murray's experience he would have known that the correct thing to do (as Murray proved immediately afterwards) was to scream like a baby and to lie on the field crying his eyes out; and if he'd done that, maybe Murray would have been in trouble instead.

Instead of which, Murray has the immense satisfaction of knowing that he has deliberately hurt someone's already injured hand and that he's got away with it; and the satisfaction of knowing that he has provoked an opponent into getting a three match ban. I dare say he may be a little bit sorry that his actions did in fact hurt Brighton because Tarkowski won't play against Huddersfield; but I'm sure he can square that with his conscience.

Possible dislocated finger ? Well have you found out if it was or not and of course put the footage of Murray grabbing or twisting it up on here when you do.

What a work of fiction [emoji23]. Do you have a book out for Christmas?

Maybe not dsr-burnley...but most Burnley fans think Tarkowski was stupid and naive to be "suckered" and "wound-up" by seasoned pro Murray - and deserves to pay the penalty which will obviously harm their chances in the next three games.

But the incident does set up the prospect of a "tasty" return match in April - especially if either (both?) team is in desperate need of points.

No extra motivation will be needed.:)

So the 3 game ban is confirmed. Does nothing to change the fact that we should have had a possible match winning penalty :(

We had a match winning penalty. Unfortunately it was struck like a rugby penalty, not a football penalty.

What bugs me is that he misses the Huddersfield game, meaning they are gaining an advantage before kick off for an incident that happened against one of their league rivals.

If we get relegated by a point we can look back on the penalty that wasn't given for Tarkowski's elbow as a key moment.

The Prem needs to sort this out and give manager's at least one video review challenge per match.

No team that gets relegated can ever pinpoint it to ONE incident across the course of 38 games. Even if you miss a penalty in the last minute of the last game that would've kept you up, you've still had 37 other games to avoid being put in that perilous position. Forget decisions. Forget luck. If you're not good enough over the course of a season then you end up EXACTLY where you deserve to be, end of.

As for giving managers the power to call for a video review, whether that be one call, two calls or whatever....absolutely not. Firstly, you can't always guarantee that a video review would conclusively prove anything one way or the other (its still, after all, just a human interpretation). And secondly, you can be sure that with a video review in hand, it would always be used to try and get a goal wiped out, particularly late ones.

Imagine the last home game of the season against Man U, there's a goalmouth scramble, and we knock in a last minute winner. Do you reckon there is even the slightest chance that Mourinho wouldn't be calling for a video review to try and get that goal ruled out for something, anything ? So we, as fans in the stands, have to put all our loopy spontaneous goal celebrations on ice, pending the ref going over to the touchline to have another squizz at the goal.

That would absolutely kill the game as we know it. And for what ? A second opinion on something. No thanks.

To award a penalty the ball has to be in play. At the time of the incident the ball was out for a throw in. It could only have ever been a sending off but never a penalty.

What was the situation when Greer got sent off at Withdean and a penalty was awarded against us . Can't recall if it was a freekick, corner or throw in?

A penalty kick is awarded if a player commits a direct free kick offence inside their penalty area or off the field as part of play as outlined in Laws 12 and 13.
