This all seemed to start with iPhones when people would leave the "sent from an iPhone" signature at the end of every email. To non-Apple people this translates as "ooh look at me I've got an iPhone, look, LOOK, it's an iPhone, are you looking yet?"

This. Despite the fact that my iPod touch still has that on any emails I send. I MUST get around to removing this.

Sent from the Mill Road Park & Ride Bus Queue.

In my case it means please excuse the bad spelling/grammar/autocorrects as I can't see the screen properly.

Reminds me of the old joke: How do you know if someone has an iPhone?

They tell you

repeatedly..... YAWN

clearly Apple have made some great devices, but this quasi-religious worship of their brand is just odd, and fortunately will come to an end, when the inevitable technology cycle happens and their stuff becomes old hat and somebody creates something more innovative.

Meanwhile Apple sit there doing nothing new or innovative and sitting on their $98,000,000,000 cash mountain.

Not quite.

RIM/Blackberry was doing it long before the iPhone was a twinkle in the eye of Steve Jobs.

You missed today's big news about Apple returning the cash to shareholders by paying a quarterly dividend and buying back their own shares to the combined tune of c$45bn then?

Crikey... so they have ONLY got $53,000,000,000 left to do nothing new or innovative with.

The empire is crumbling before our very eyes.

That said I think their plans indicate $45bn being returned over 3 years. I think they are currently accruing cash far, far quicker than that.

I'm guessing there's no option for being able to vote in polls or do the NSC Bookie bets via Tapatalk? Bookie I can understand obviously but thought they would have got polls sorted

theis makes them sound even more like the Catholic Church! :)

but i still don't see why sitting on a cash mountain is reason for quasi-religious following. Hate him or not, at least Bill Gates has decided to put outrageous fortune to good use through charitable work. Steve Jobs decided to steer Apple down a course of hoarding cash - apparently inspired due to the company's previous collapse - which doesn't really benefit anyone, especially when the company does not have a recent history of significant dividend payouts.

and being a big tech giant in any era is no guarantee of future success.

EDIT: take this back in view of comments about dividend payout. but my point in bold stands.
