Even if we had the money to buy him, could afford to pay him, he still would not come to us. Expect to see him somewhere like Ipswich or QPR next season, or even Fulham or Birmingham.

I thought that but am not sure if he would go there.

He's a footballer, he'll go anywhere if they pay him what he thinks he's worth.

Won't go any higher than Championship level though, how many players make the jump straight from the lower divisions to the Premier League these days? You could see a middling to upper Championship club taking a punt, then if he does well there, someone like Wolves or Fulham would take a look.

Only by association.

Simon Cox is a strange fellow, it's not cut and dried that he'll even leave. Obviously the smart money is on a move to West Brom or Leicester (inside track. ), but it's by no means a guarantee - every interview he's given has suggested he'll leave if he's persuaded, but he's not in any great rush to jump ship. He's settled, he still lives in Reading and doesn't want to move by all accounts.

As for the fee, someone said between £2million and £4million, that's pretty spot on. They have a sell on clause from Reading to think about aswell, and they think that because he's not desperate to move, they can charge more.

He's too good for Swindon, everyone can see that. But he's said that if he's still there on July 1st, he wants to sign a new contract.

Perhaps Palace will take a punt at him, they need strengthening up front.

Keeping the Swindon fans sweet, methinks. Most footballers have some kind of loyalty bonus in their contracts, do they not, meaning if they don't agitate for a move, but earn one through their ability, they get a fat wedge when they leave a club. But if they ask for a transfer, they don't get that.

What odds, do you think, that Simon Cox has just such a clause?

Seriously, he might be settled in Reading, but that's within easy reach of plenty of clubs at Championship level. No way will he want to spend another season with a mediocre League One side when he's got Championship teams offering him a better profile, higher quality team mates, and triple the salary.

Hmmm, I have mixed feelings about this, obviously in an ideal world would love to keep him for another season, we are financially safe so there is no immediate need to sell him, however there has been talks of offers around the 2.5 million mark which would be hard to turn down. Whatever money we get, it is believed Reading have a 40% sell on clause. Our chairman has already gone on the record saying that he will back Wilson in the transfer market and any monies made from the sale of Cox will be spent on players.

The thing is with Cox is that he has continually stated that he wants to play football, he is not interested in sitting on the bench, which is why we got him in the first place from Reading. He still lives in Reading so if he wasnt going to move both QPR and Fulham have been sniffing around and I would hedge my bets on them as the favourites.

He is the best player I have seen in a Swindon shirt since Hoddle, his work ethic is second to none, he is one of those players whom the opposition hates and that we love. Its always great having a player on your team the winds up the opposing fans. His finishing this season has been top drawer, and he banged them in last year too after joining us in Jan. Alot of people, me included, won a lot of money on him bagging the divisions top scorer ( £348 for a £10 bet- get in! )

It is inevitable he will go, but you can always dream.

As a realist, I've been saying that all season. That he's been saying the right things publically, while wanting to move on privately. But the fact he's been saying it ALL season makes me wonder, only time will tell really. I sort of hope he moves on from there, it annoys me he equalled Bobby's record this season (28 in the league, 32 all comps)! If I were him, I would move to West Brom because they would suit his style best, I think. But I wouldn't want to move to the Midlands, that does make a difference in the thinking I should imagine.

Brian Howard, James Milner, Shay Given, Michael Carrick?
