Agree it’s their job, which is why politicians end up “in charge” (sort of), as no one votes for politicians!

If the U.K. had gone the full Dominic Cummings herd immunity route we would now be looking at massively inflated numbers probably in the hundreds of thousands - but hey, they’re only numbers on a spreadsheet or in a scientific model.

One of the worst countries in the world for deaths, making wrong decision after wrong decision, poorly led, derided by many....the UK is a basket case.

Sweden...lauded for their refusal to lockdown....an object lesson to many on how to deal with the virus.
Swedish deaths per million....579......Scandanavian neighbours...Norway and Denmark both locked down. Norway has had 10% and Denmark 20% of the Swedish death rate.
Answer = Sweden is not a role model and neither is any other country in the world ( particularly NZ ) Each country has its own individuality and faces its own particular problems.

The four per cent betterment of New Zealand only came at the cost of nearly 6,000 people. I am sure the economic situation in Sweden will be of comfort to their relatives and friends.

They haven’t even got that comfort, compensating for the huge loss of life to CV19. The laissez faire approach to the epidemic, didn’t prevent the economy crashing.

Of course we didnt have growth. Our economy is very dependant on other countries thriving. If the world is doing bad, we are doing bad. We export building material and shit, unlike i.e. the Danes who mainly export pharmaceuticals and food. No shit they are doing better during a pandemic.

The "laissez faire" thing is also funny. We have had social distancing since March and in Q2 some of the harshest rules in the world, continuing to not allow 50 people on any event. We are not doing the "test events" or "having thousands of people at some horse show". The difference between Sweden & the UK is that we have a long term idea while you are doing what feels good from week to week. You are in love with panic - Stockholm syndrome in full effect - so of course you wish us to die for not panicking. But we are doing fine here. Keeping it consistent, social distancing while still able to live normal lives. No yo-yo attitude of allowing thousands of people to meet one week and then a complete lockdown the next.

You always have an awful lot to say about the UK, often negative. But are hypersensitive if anyone on NSC is critical of Tegnell’s CV19 approach leading to huge loss of life compared to every one of Sweden’s neighbours.

You are not wrong with this post with regards to the differing approaches of our two nations. But I'm not sure yours has been all too effective either.

I personally think that article is trying to unfairly discredit him by saying the following

he’s an “Underläkare” which translates (via Google) as “assistant physician.” (A fully accredited doctor in Sweden is often designated as a “Läkare”.)

He is basically the same as a Junior Doctor in this Country. An Underläkare is an on duty Doctor that has yet to move into a specialist area of medicine.

Yes, the article they talk about is entirely anecdotal, as it is not backed by science, but is an account and his view from being on the front line.
