And the fact that Rooney is brought up as the only example for this and that was 20 years ago proves the point doesn't it? It is incredibly rare for someone so young to be starting for a PL team, especially leading the line, for good reason.

He was a looking like a middle aged man at the age of 18, I don’t think Rooney is a great example plus he’s almost the only one

nobody's arguing it isn't possible. just that it's probably not a good idea to possibly be relying on a seventeen year old because we've sold our top scorer and maybe undav doesn't work out/gets injured

And look at how that turned out for Rooney. He was on the decline by about age 25
Not a lot different from Owen and Fowler... as an Irishman, Ferguson would not be under the same pressure from media and fans however.
That said.. maybe comparisons with these players could wait until he's scored a goal or two.

Some decline! If we'd signed Rooney at 25 for the next five years we'd have had the best striker we ever had!
That handful of United players were all 3 years old than Ferguson is now when Hansen said that.

FWIW Piroe scored 4 against the 3 promoted teams for a side that was stuffed in 5 of the 6 games.

Despite the fact that the Championship level marking (for many of these goals) is nowhere near what he’d find in the EPL, he seems to finish powerfully in the right spots to avoid keepers saves.
