Back on subject re-trans women in female sport; there is much discussion on how much advantage over women a person gains going through male puberty and how much is lost by them after taking female hormones. There seems to be a mix of doctors & scientists saying either there is a permanent advantage & others saying it equals out over time. If we currently have no firm consensus from medics that there is no advantage then the answer must be that trans women may not take part in women's sport, yes very harsh on them but fair to majority. Sometimes the majority must be put first especially if there is a risk of injury.

The one thing which never ever seems to be mentioned in this is the fact that trans women will never ever experience PMT or have to endure the pain of a period or have the concern about a leakage when playing. Women tennis player are now allowed coloured undergarments at Wimbledon & women footballers have asked that they don't play in white shorts.

Doping in athletics - there are plenty of examples of athletes on this list who were willing to take testosterone.

My point was that some athletes are willing to take testosterone. With the move to easier transition, such as in Australia, it's not much of a step. And just because it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean you should not take steps to stop it happening.

I haven't researched it but my guess would be that, given one can change the sex on one's birth certificate then this would not be valid proof for most sportsm if they haven't done this yet then it will surely be on the way.

Also I would imagine that a claim of transitioning would not be proof enough for the doping authorities and some kind of prrof would be required for the use of testosterone. So the lengths one would have to go to would be insane.

But yes let's agree that steps should be taken for the hypothetical scenarios mentioned. But let's also face it, those steps are probably already in place.

Talk about stating the bleeding obvious. Of course no woman has pretended to transition to a trans man because she wants to be allowed to take testosterone - because at present transitioning to a trans man does not give them the right to compete while taking testosterone.

If the authorities said that women taking testosterone could compete in women's sport as long as they are transitioning to become a man, then there would be people trying it on.

The last position is not unimaginable. The athlete could apply for therapeutic use exemption as with other drugs (think Chris Froome). While it might not apply under current rules (I don't know) who is to say it won't be allowed?

We actually discriminate against different categories of people for all sorts of reasons without batting an eyelid, and usually for entirely sensible reasons.

Women's sport has traditionally discriminated on the basis of 'sex', but as this word has linguistically almost become interchangeable with the slightly more fluffy word 'gender' this has led to some confusion about who can actually compete in women's sport. A rebrand to 'female' sports might be a step in the right direction perhaps?
