A whole year, eh? Obviously WELL beyond saving as a leisure attraction for kids.

Best make it into flats for commuting web-designers. It's for the best.

The council's just announced that Preston Manor is to close for six months a year, October through to March due to falling visitor numbers. Leaving it prey to vandalism, squatters, mystery fires etc.

Best make it into flats for commuting web-designers. It's for the best.

Oh for god sake don't be so bloody thick. Surely flats are the most affordable form of housing.

Yes, but in that location, you can be sure the prices will be well above the new-homowners bracket........ more yuppie pads.

The only surprise is that the Anti-Falmer lot havn't suggested that the stadium be built there.

:)

Actually yes. Yes it is.

Come on Tom, don't you want Brighton to have the best?

Yes I do. But keep sticking flats up all over the place by ripping up any leisure activity or building of any character that somebody fancies selling off for a quick buck and we'll end up as the new Croydon. Don't really fancy ending up living in Legoland.

Right, I'm starting a "keep our characterful sites of urban dereliction" campaign.

And not before time! as yet another beautiful, characterful, quaint old bombsite-style city-centre vast, empty, rough piece of land between North Road and Church Street falls victim to the profiteers. How dare they construct a beautiful modern, stylish glass and steel library and hotel where - for the last 40 years - tumbleweed has flourished so abundantly.

Take it you'll be asking for a full refund from the West Pier Trust then?

Don't laugh, the Green Party wanted to keep the Brighton Station car-park site (the one they want us to build a stadium on) as a inner-city wildlife area. By keeping it derelict and covered with weeds the area provided a wilderness setting where several interesting species could thrive.

No...would you consider asking for a refund on your donation to the club if we didn't get Falmer?

Brighton has a very good record of getting rid of ice rinks.

I remember the one that was destroyed for the Brighton Centre in the 1960's and with it went the best ice hockey team in the country - Brighton Tigers.

For the youngsters, the Tigers were the ice hockey equivalent of Arsenal nowadays.

The site must have been prime for years. I never went to the rink in questtion because local people told me it was crap and too small. Yes I cannot make my own descision on that one now, but the site does look shabby, and if there is a deveolpment there, some social hosing must also be provided.

The next prime sites to keep an eye on are the block with Rosens, Ivys, and Clock Tower Cameras. Rosens is shut. Ivys looks like it is, and there is a prime site sitting next to Clock Tower Cameras with nothing on it.

Tom. One thing I was however suprised with was Safeway gaining the Clock Tower site. Now they must have known about the development?

Flats, eh? Yup, really need more of those. And SO convenient for that nice new Safeways at the clock-tower

Sorry to be a bit thick, but where's this new Safeway? Where that One Stop (or whatever it was) was?

EDIT:

Oh, sorry - I know what you're talking about now! :jester:

For anybody else who's a bit puzzled by this, it's the big building site that's got the ex-Quadrant pub attached to the side of it. Been a fair old bit of controversy over it in the Argus this week. A lot of people thought it would be a flagship store like Harvey Nicholls or something, instead of just another supermarket.

Not quite sure how they're going to ensure that out-of-control fully-laden shopping trolleys don't career down North Street and West Street causing serious injury and loss of life tho.

Probably using those mysterious force field things that stop trolleys at certain points, like they have in the Marina. Either that or by the cunning ruse of just having baskets, like a Tesco Metro.

Typical, the nearest decent supermarket is miles away from North Laine and now I'm moving away after seven years, they're building two.

Don't you just HATE it when that happens... :D

Yorkie you are absolutely right about the disgraceful way they got rid of the Brighton Tigers. I'm not old enough to remember, but my grandad was a Canadian who moved here after the war, and used to go and see the Tigers, always told me how gutted he was when they closed the rink. Wasn't there talk of bringing the Tigers back? at Black Rock?
