Bit in the Argus today saying that The Sussex Ice Rink in Queen square is to be demolished to make way for a block of 24 flats.

Flats, eh? Yup, really need more of those. And SO convenient for that nice new Safeways at the clock-tower

What a classy town we live in

I learnt ice-skating there (funny that cos learning football would've been hard), anyway agree....this "City" is turning into a Pikey Londerners Escape Plot or something :nono:

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
And they are NOT affordable housing that our council is supposed to be championing.

When the f*** are politicians going to realise that we dont want ANYMORE luxuary housing when the people born and bred in the city can barely afford to share the rent of a one bedroom flat with 4 other people.

Oh for god sake don't be so bloody thick. Surely flats are the most affordable form of housing.

The flats being build these days are not your little council block ofg flats but the Penthouse stylee....we're talking £250k at least and going up to £1mil...well the ones being built in Leeds are!!

I imagine Brighton Must be the same, there are purpose built for well off commuters and businesses rather than putting up in hotels!!

There's a load of flats just gone up roud this way behind a new shop on Lewes Road, these are being purpose built for airlines who will be buying them all and putting their cabin crew/ pilots/ other staff up there instead of paying for hotels. Works out much cheaper, i imagine this will be happening more and more.

They are ALL going up in the North, Leeds, Huddersfield, Dewbury, EVEN BRADFORD is doin it!!

Businesses buy em an Rio Ferdinand had a top floor one and Lesley Ash has one in Leeds (top floor job)!

The business people buy em, then the employees have to get their own food etc etc. No hotel expenses!!

When is Black Rock going to be built? They'll probably be a gap of a couple of years until the city gets an ice-rink again.

shame but hopefully a new bigger ice rink can be built elsewhere(look at that pig fly by)..

Maybe we could get a whole new multipurpose stadium with retractable roof , movable pitch ,multi changing seats /terracing etc built at Waterhall ....and shock horror the council would be behind the scheme!! :nono:

It's like attack of the yokels on this thread. We dursent loike outziders.

How cheap do you think properties in the town centre are going to be? By increasing the housing stock in the city the council should help to make all housing cheaper or at least moderate price inflation.

Actually ..... good riddance. It was pathetic. There is a PROPER ice rink planned as part of the Black Rock development. With the shoebox version gone no one can say "Brighton's already got an Ice Rink". This city will have proper sports and leisure facilities if I have to personally kill every Green councillor, NIMBY and member of the Regency Society with my bare hands.

John Prescott has the plans on his desk for the new Ice rink, we await his decision!

That tiny old shed at the top of Queens Square won't be missed at all - assuming the Black Rock thing goes ahead.

As I said before, the town's property market is a symptom of the place being, for the poor first time buyers at least, a victim of its own success. BUT: the alternative would be for Brighton to become more like Hastings...
