Of course the good thing about all this is that the average readership of the Sussex Express is approximately 12 people, so it's not as though Barnes's observations are going to be read by anybody who matters.

It's the Framley Examiner of the south east.

High up on the South Downs.
Mr Barnes thinks the campaign against Lewes DC and Falmer suburb has been particularly nasty and intimidating. Of course this is total nonsense. However, if he and his handful of anti-football fanatics destroy the Albion, which is their wish, I'm sure he will have the chance to experience something nasty.

So much for that buffoon Baker's healing process! There is nothing but mutual hatred between our lot and the parasitic property holders of Falmer suburb.

Maybe ... but no amount of misreading of NSC justifies a claim that Roz has committed an offence against Ann de Vecchi.

The ONLY contact the two of them have had in the past six months has been when Lewes District Council granted Roz the press facility to take photographs at a meeting of the Council and a meeting of the Cabinet Committee. The Cabinet meeting was some weeks after the poster was produced.

Completely agree with your first statement there Lord B. however the letter is addressing a different matter to which my comment was in response to.... the letter states "The campaign against Falmer Village and LDC has been particularly nasty, and intimidating, involving phone-calls and threatening abusive emails." I'd hate for anyone to be able to link NSC with those calls and emails!!

That's not FAIR!

This week's edition has got my photograph in it. Roz took it.

Should I sue?

Just on tedebear's point, we all know that in these situations the accepted wisdom is 'You can never condone any form of intimidation/etc'.

That remains true to a point, certainly on violence. But in the real world if you take a group of loyal, good-humoured, hard-working, committed football fans who have campaigned tirelessly for years for a new ground; have endured countless hardships; spent money and time; seen the goalposts moved numerous times; heard blatant lies told by a tiny group of NIMBYs flying in the face of local and government opionion; and all the while known that in another part of the country this would have been done and dusted years ago - sooner or later you'd try the patience of Job.

The fact is Barnes and his ilk deserve flak. Not violent intimidation, but the sort of real heat that you can exert in a democracy. They've brought it on themselves.

Given that most of the ten convicted of smashing up the Pumphouse never attended Albion games, surely labelling ALL Albion fans as thugs as a result is akin to labelling ALL country dwellers as barbarous, defenceless-animal-killing, 4x4 driving stuck up pretentious arseholes?

Quite right. Although its quite a refreshing change not to be lumped in with the barbarous defenceless-animal-killers.

On a serious note, I can only assume that Mr Barnes has long ago lost his marbles as well as his relationship with the truth. Because otherwise I'd have to assume he didn't know how serious the consequences can be if you call someone's integrity into such preposterous question.

PS. A Letter to the Editor has been despatched.

I hope at least part of that letter addresses the issue of whether or not he has linked or compared you to those morons. Because his letter comes very close to doing just that, and if he has and they've printed it, that's a problem for them as well. Like you don't know this...you must be livid about it, it's a disgraceful letter.

Simon Barnes has a letter in todays local paper;

There are some things that need to be said about your article on Roz South.
Many football clubs have a minority of mindless thugs and Brighton and Hove Albion are no exception.
Let me qoute from an article in November last year: "Ten soccer thugs brought terror to a city centre as they clashed with rival fans, a court heard. Chairs and tables were hurled through a pub window as Brighton fans battled Leeds supporters. Witnesses and staff cowered in fear as missiles were hurled into the Pump House in Market Street, Brighton. The violence erupted four hours after the Albion beat Leeds at Withdean in October, last year".
Marcus Fletcher, prosecuting, said: "This was football hooliganism at it's worst. Members of the public enjoying a Saturday night, were forced to take refuge at the rear of the pub. All of those who witnessed the level of violence involved were left shocked and terrified".
It is in this context that one needs to judge her poster. It is not just a harmless piece of lampooning of a politician. There is a hidden threat here. Ms South should think about the consequences of what she does. The campaign against Falmer Village and LDC has been particularly nasty, and intimidating, involving phone-calls and threatening abusive emails.
The aim appears to be to silence any opposition to the stadium at Falmer. This cannot be right!

So does Simon blame Roz for the riot then?

What a stupid c*** this bloke is.

Mind you if Roz wants to start a riot - let's party :lolol: :lolol:

Sad that this person has to reach for some totally UNRELATED negative incident associated tennuously (I say tennuous, because the game simply brought visitors to the town that would have done the same stuff with any other excuse to mob-up and kick-off) with the existence of Brighton and Hove Albion.

The heavy underlying statement in that letter is that FOOTBALL is THE reason for violence - and that ALL football should not exist, anywhere.

After that, shouldn't testosterone be eradicated, as a scapegoat for those who cannot control theirs?

If these so-called 'authorities' were worth their salt, they'd be focussing on control of violence in society in general - not using those incidents FOR their arguments. Get RID of authorities who BLAME, and bring in the kind of people who know ways to DEAL with societies' malcontents. This ineffectual letter-writer is actually a symptom of the PROBLEM, and NOT the CURE.

Just read the letter written by Mr Barnes and can safely say its absolute bollocks, what a weak link between a genuine campaigner for the falmer stadium and a few mindless thugs! This just demonstrates these people really are clutching at straws now! WE WANT FALMER!:clap2:

I wonder if we, using Mr Barnes rather twisted logic, can say that as in the past residents of Lewes have committed acts of violence and indeed acts of murder then all Lewes residents should be considered sociopathic ?
