Meopham, Kent.
I miss coastal Sussex, particularly around Brighton and Hove, quite a lot. It would be much much worse, if I lived further away, but as it is i can get back "home" fairly regularly. But yeah I miss it a lot. Nothing quite replaces walking along the seafront at Brighton of an evening. The whole atmosphere and feel of the place.

Agree with many comments above - I've only been out of Sussex 4 years and keep sayng I will return one day (when the kids have finished school).

The killer question (pardon the pun) for all us exciles is: where would you want to be burried or have your ashes scattered?

Sussex for me ....

Buried next to my dad in a Sussex churchyard or scattered from the top of the downs.

My ashes will also have to be brought back to Sussex. I'd like to think they could be sprinkled on the pitch at Falmer but as that might still be a field next to the A27 I might just have to settle for the downs or on the cliffs at Seven Sisters.

Actually, making your after-life wishes known is one of the best things you can do whilst still alive - you can't tell em what you want when you're gone.

People shouldn't see discussions on this as morbid, you should feel comforatable letting your wishes be known - could save a lot of arguement and heateche for the ones left behind, esp if you don't have a will.

Ooh I can feel a poll coming on here ...

I always wanted my ashes to be scattered over the side of a P&O ferry on a day trip to France.

The only thing I miss about Sussex (other than family) is the proximity to the sea.
That is the main thing I miss about Sussex too.

Brighton is a great place nowadays but I can't say I miss it because of that - not least because it was frankly a bit of a dump when I was growing up in the area.

Please, will only Sussex exiles reply/post.Just how much do you miss Sussex? I live near Leek, great town, tip top area, but it where i live not my home, does any other exile feel the same?

Great thread and am glad I am not the only one who misses the place terribly.

I still come down to Sussex twice a year to see my folks and my heart lifts whenerver I get the first glimpse of the Downs as we go down the M23.

Fortunately, even though its over 30 years ago now I still keep in touch with mates I was at school with and we all go out for a drink whenever I'm down.

Due to family circumstances (my eldest son is disabled and goes to a brilliant school up here) I won't be moving back for a while yet, but I've been away for too long and will be back one day. Even my wife (who was born in Workington fer gawd's sake!!) has no problem with this ambition.

And if you miss Susssex read this;-

http://www.poetryconnection.net/poets/Hilaire_Belloc/4386

The last two verses really do it for me! But then I always was a sentimental old bugger.

Oh, and my ashes will be scattered on Mount Caburn!

A man who is bored with Sussex - Brighton and Hove in particular ...is bored with Life.

Actually that nearly is a quote. The writer SPB Mais said, in the 1930s:-

"Anyone who does not live in Brighton must be mad and ought to be locked up".

As someone who can trace their roots back to the 16th centuary I am very much a Sussex boy. Do I miss it? In a nostalgic kind of way. I always get excited when I go "Home" but I am always glad to leave and even if I won the lottery I would never return.

Yes, miss Sussex. Moved away over 30 years ago, work and family keep me where I live now. In my area there are more mosques and temples being built then churches. English is rapidly becoming the second language. I know Sussex isn't perfect, but it's nice to see the South Downs and surrounding countryside. Also to go into a paper shop that doesn't open at 5.00am and close at 10.00pm, where you have to walk sideways down the aisles selling everything from out of date food to overpriced beer, where you get the pleasure of somebody serving you who doesn't speak English or thier 10 year old daughter who does.

walsall
lets see walsall - or sussex, god i miss the south - after 5 years here i have only just managed to understand what anyone is saying - i feel like i'm a minority because this country has failed to intagrate a multi society correctly, meaning i live in a an asian majority town whilst the majority of sussex remains white. Walsall offers dirty canals, sussex offers a coastline - Sussex offers nice eating establishments - walsall offers rows and rows of fastfood, kebab and curry houses (some of the latter being better than whats on offer in sussex).

Overall, i miss sussex loads
