Miss it loads - moved away permanently in 1979 (the season we were promoted to the top flight) .... seems a long log time ago now.
Would love to move back but simply can't afford it!

I would agree with that but with one exception. My mate (from Seaford) but who has lived in Toxteth for about 18 years, runs a huge kids club at a local church. He is a very prominent figure in the community and has passed on the word 'twitten' to many young 'Scallies' in the area who now apparently use it in opposition to alley. Weird.

As to missing Sussex, I miss it all the time having been 'oop north' for 13 years. As it has been stated, the lack of a good country pub is sorely missed, family, friends and the like come into the equation. I hate not being able to regularly watch the Albion on home turf, it was my greatest relaxation. But to me nothing compartes with the countryside of Sussex. The beauty of the Downs. The unique feel of the seaside towns particularly Brighton which always has a buzz. The view from Seaford Head across to the Seven Sisters going on to Beachy Head. Small towns like Arundel and Rye. Oh and yes someone else mentioned the weather. A week of sunshine in the low 20's passes for a decent summer up here.

I am a temporary exile living in Hampshire.

I raise a little cheer when I drive to work and the West Sussex sign comes into view.

There are many lovely places in the country, but I do miss Brighton. Walking along the seafront, playing frisbee on the Kings Lawns. I realise it is not a perfect place, but home is where the heart is.

I live in the west country and work up in Bristol, which isn't exactly a small place, but the over-riding impression I get every time I visit for a match or to visit family, is the density of people and cars. I breath a huge sigh of relief when i drive back west and get off the m27 onto the a36, it is like another world.

15 years out of it, and i will never go back to the south east on a permanent basis, give me a quiet country cider pub in the mendips anyday.

PS I live a few miles from Cheddar Gorge, and whilst it does get busy in the summer months, you never actually feel hemmed in like I do on the brighton to Worthing coast area.

I like it better over here. I miss the people/culture/Albion as this place is very backward but I prefer the quality of life over here.

I really miss Sussex and can't wait to get on the M23 and start seeing the good old Sussex countryside again. I've lived in Cheshire for 17 years now but still feel like Sussex is really my home, I know all the streets and shortcuts, the people all sound like me (mainly) and it just feels like I belong.

Maybe it's because I've always made a big thing about being a Sussex gal but it's my identity and I will never ever call myself a Northerner or tell people where I live without adding 'but I originally come from Brighton'.

I'm proud to come from Sussex and always will be.

Whenever on holiday etc I too always say that I'm from Brighton.

Brighton is a fantastic city. But its turning a bit too much like London. Infact its full of Londoners who dont give a toss about Brighton and its heritage. Maybe thats why planning permission is so slow in Brighton.

Whenever someone asks where in the UK I'm from, I always say Brighton. However, I don't really miss it, and life is easier here.

Do I miss Sussex? On A Saturday afternoon I often miss the thought of popping down to the Withdean to watch the game, especially when the wife drags me out shopping. Certainly though, I don’t miss Brighton.

I certainly don’t miss Brighton when I drive or park anywhere. Living in Kenilworth, few places are more than 2 hours away, in Brighton you can’t even get round the M25 in that time. I don’t miss many people (Family and friends excluded) as I find Brighton itself unfriendly. I don’t think it’s a North – South thing more a city - Village thing. One only has to see all those friendly councillors in Lewes to know how people are more friendly in smaller towns?!. Lastly, house prices. I honestly don’t know how people can afford them on the South coast. I’m looking to buy a 3 bedroom house, with lounge and reception room for 220K here. I bet I couldn’t get a garden shed for that in Sussex.

Still, as El pres and others say, You can’t beat driving down the M23 on a summers day. It does makes you feel at home and I’ll always say I’m from Brighton.

Been living is Basildon for 7 years now and it an utter shit hole. Definitely miss Brighton - walks along the seafront, the cosmopolitan nature of the place, even the hills (the part of Essex I am in is flat and featureless)... fortuantely I'm only an hour or so away and get back to see the folks fairly regularly.

Stuck in a shithole which the locals call Grimsby. Miss the buzz and still haven't got over the culture shock ( there isn't any ). Stuck here for the foreseeable future as I am currently unemployed in a one industry town. Miss the warmer weather and sunshine but really enjoy watching the Albion away when they play oop north as the spirit of Brighton and Sussex reinvigorates you.

I don't miss Sussex that much - I'm in it every other week during the season - Devon is like living in Sussex but only further West with a thicker population without a sense of humour.

Mate I am at my sisters in Looe at the moment we went to Plmouth for the day on Thursday what a disgusting unpleasent chav infested crap hole of a place it really is, how dare you compare it to Sussex by the Sea, hoe very dare you.

The only thing I don't miss is the house prices, one of the reasons I came to Gloucester, I am about to move home and can confidently say that what I am buying would probably cost me 100k more in Brighton or Hove.

Like all above I say that I am from Brighton whenever I travel in the vain hope that people I meet will have heard of it, a bit pointless naming a village about 20 miles north west of the place that most people from the east of our county won't even have heard of.

The first time I worked overseas I had a German colleague who when told that I was from Brighton then went on to ask me if I was a Seagulls fan. Once I had picked myself up off the floor and recovered from the shock he went on to tell me that he spent most of his summer holidays in Southampton and had even visited the Goldstone. So anyone who slags off Germans in my presence does it at their peril, some of them are really quite intelligent and cultured.

Would move back but the kids wont let me yet.

Then again I might go straight past Brighton and move to France
