I don't know why Sussex stopped playing at Arundel in particular, I think most people thought matches there were one of the highlights of the cricket season.

Durham (who obviously don't host a Hundred team because reasons) are playing a game up in Newcastle on Friday which I'm hoping to go to. I'll admit that the increased number of outground games is a benefit from the Hundred even if I think counties should be doing it anyway.

Arundel was always a good festival. It would have been nice to have seen the 50 over games v Herts there recently. The ground does host various matches like A team and MCC stuff, but I don't know why Sussex have stopped the festival.

Ironically, Hampshire have played more Championship games there than us in recent years !

All about revenue. The club made a conscious decision to fully utilise Hove for all games following the pandemic to maximise income.

When games are taken away from HQ it actually costs the club money rather than generating income.

I believe a positive financial year may well see the club change their stance in the coming seasons as they appreciate and understand how popular the likes of Arundel and Horsham are with the members and supporters.

I know this is true, to the extent that it's cheaper to have all the games in one place and lots of counties have made similar decisions. But it seems astonishingly short sighted to remove the most popular part of the season, aside from the emotional idea that a county club should make some effort to spread the game around, and that this can't have been any less true in the hundred plus years they managed to have games at Arundel, Eastbourne etc.

From the stream doesn't seem like that many in attendance. Going back to the earlier discussion, if this had been at Arundel would probably have been full.

I get the cost argument but likewise, a full house at Arundel would not only increase income but also potentially increase interest in the county game with those who don't go to Hove.

Went to the Hertfordshire game at Arundel, and it was great to be back there, the sun was out and the view over the Arun Valley was gorgeous.

It was always the first fixture that I looked for each summer .

Grew up in Eastbourne, so know The Saffrons very well. I've spent plenty of time in the beer tent at Horsham as well, where there was always lots of runs and lots of wickets.

Out grounds are great. Love going to Hove, but there must be some provision for other venues (especially Arundel)

Lost by 10 runs but great effort from Haines and Simpson to get us that close. I think they said in three games this season, it was the first time Leicestershire had got Simpson out but not before he had plundered 487 runs from them

I can assure you it costs money. Mainly due to the contract obligations with Sodexo. Arundel more so than Horsham (due to hospitality obligations and additional stewarding / logistics). Quite happily share more detail with you if you want to DM me.

I used to be heavily involved in the Horsham games. It always made money playing elsewhere added to which it introduced others to the game especially children. However since to advent of the f***ing 100 it is the death of cricket during the summer to most. Hope it all goes to pot.

Perhaps shit contracts. How the catering can determine where a game is played is beyond me. Taking the game around the county, playing to full crowds as opposed to a few old gits and a seagull must or rather should be a priority and it should easily make more money.

Not that anyone seems interested in the one day cup but Sussex were put into bat by Gloucestershire and limped to 101/6 off 33 before the rain came.

Looks like it has cleared up as the outfield covers have just started to come off.

Not really a surprise though, given it is basically the Sussex 2nd XI against a near full-strength Gloucestershire.

The weather is a big factor. Suffer the cost of putting everything in place at Arundel and then it rains is very costly with insurance costs prohibitive.

Top 3 scorers for Sussex CCC are all Preston Nomads players and none of them were allowed to play on Sunday in Area Final at Amersham.
ECB Regionals finals August 25 which are the Quarter Finals in England Club T20 cricket. Hope they are allowed to play this time. 10.00am vs Hayes representing Kent. Bristol vs Oundle 13.00. Both winners play each other 4pm. Then a South vs North Final Sept 22.
