I read "On Captaincy" a year or so ago.
Highly recommend if you haven't read it in the 30years or so since it came out.
In the days of the Botham frenzy, he was my cricket hero. It was more his nature as a person I was drawn to. I aspired to be like him. I read 'Phoenix from the Ashes' as a 13 year old but none of his others. Captaincy never really applied to me, I was always likely to read books by bowlers.

It's just a really good cricket book in general.
It's also, since I've just checked, actually called The Art of Captaincy, rather than On Captaincy as I called it. But I'm guessing most people on this thread know this.
I think I briefly confused it with Deep Purple In Rock. Also excellent and highly recommended. Very different vibe.

Nearly 1600 runs, 35 wickets (26 catches) from 373 overs and it goes to the last ball. A remarkable, addictive and exciting match with a draw doing it justice.

Not sure how people can criticise the declaration. It was almost perfect (if a little too close).

I seem to recall we had a similar draw with Worcs at the end of last season at Hove when Libby scored 215.

What was the result by the way ?
Chill out I was just highlighting someone said it was going to be a ‘bore draw’ and it was one of the most exciting games in the county champs for a long time I think.

With all 4 results still possible in the last over after 4 days of county championship cricket, that was a classic.

We nearly won the game according to Paul Fabrace and he's really proud of them. #Titanicknowsnothing

What I do know is that from a position of total dominance, we very nearly and completely needlessly lost the game and Paul Farbrace is covering his arse and thanking his lucky stars.

Do you mean “position of total dominance” to mean “certain to win” or “certain not to lose”. If it’s the former at what point were we in that position?

We were only dominant in the sense that the draw was there for the taking on Wednesday morning if we kept batting.
But draws won’t be enough to get us up which is what Farbrace wants.
So if there was such a thing as a dominance scale it would be right at the bottom.
All in all, the red ball team is doing pretty well. I don’t think we will go up which is fine, as we would struggle in Div One imo without a major overhaul. A comparison would be the Albion promotion bid in 1990/91.

My copy of County Cricket Matters has just arrived and there's a nice article about Sussex cricket books - I have to find the Pictorial History, sounds great
